Crazy Man's Handcuffs!!!
It is the best rubberband effects on the market. Dan Harlan's Bandlocked (Jumping RubberBand with a twist) gets my thumbs up too! Another effect is the penetration of a band thru your middle finger. Can't remember the name of the effect. It is in one of Harlan's Tapes |

You stretch two bands between your hands (doo-da, doo-da... sorry), forming a little
"ladder" with 4 rungs. The spec loops something around the top rung -- a dollar, a paperclip, their watch, their finger, whatever. On your command, the thing jumps from the top rung down to the second rung, then the third, and finally down to the bottom rung. Harlan has a version called Time Zones that uses a spectator's watch, and at the end, after the watch has traveled across three time zones, it's found to be three hours ahead (or behind). Quinn
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

I'm not sure what this one is called but the effect is two rubber bands are stretched around the index finger and thumb of each hand. the bands are linked together (magician pulls hands apart to show that the bands are indeed linked) but then they seem to disolve apart and the hands are seperated with both bands intact.
Can anyone tell me what this one is called. I picked up the technique from a Copperfield special but I've never learned what to call it other than, "Hey, watch this." |

Hi Magnus
This is the famous 'Crazy Man's Handcuffs' (CMH) that we're all going wild about. If you've got a good working of this from only watching David Copperfield on TV you're doing very well. Regards Bill |

Hi.
Impromptu linking rubber bands (Chris Kenner's version). Ending "breaking" one of them and restoring it. Cheers Stefano Mambretti |

Has to be CMH followed by Jay Sankey's 'Unleaded' where the band penetrates a pen or pencil.

This isn't exactly rubberbands, but I do the linking finger rings. For Rubberbands, I do Crazy Mans Handcuffs. How the heck could you do an impromtu linking rubber bands?

It's on Harlan's Bandshark video, and I believe it's in one of the Elastrix books as well.

Hi.
I learnt moves for impromptu linking rubber bands in Chris Kenner's "Out of control" book ed. Kaufman. Quite hard to follow, but once you have learnt, it is easy to do. You need one second to prepare the rubber bands, and I usually do while speaking. Moves for preparation are virtually the same M. Gardner teaches in Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic, when he explains how to break and restore a rubber band. For un-linking, a friend of mine's idea was exactly to "break" the rubber band saying: "...you are wondering how can be done... ok... I simply break the rubber band... and then I restore it". Cheers Stefano Mambretti |

Elastrix II teaches the Jo-Dan Link.
And Remote Link, which is the same thing but in the spec's hands. A great follow-up effect! Dave

CMH with a slight change.
I like to use the spec's ring and have them hold onto the edge very tightly between the thumb and index finger. Drop the band through the loop, pull to show they are linked and then do the move. Usually done to the patter of, did your partner buy you this? I'm not sure that would happen to a genuine gold ring... Groovy |

*jumps on the "me too" bandwagon* CMH has always been a winner for me
I always like to give the spec two bands to try and follow along with me. When they can't follow I give them my bands and take theirs, to demonstrate that there's no 'gimmick' to it + I usually end by wrapping the bands around a business card to end and hand out as a keepsake |

My three favorite rubber band effects are:
- CMH - Travelling cash - Ring & Rubber Band (Aronson) The latter is a very strong ring on rubber band effect that's in Simon's latest book. A video of it is also on his website. Bye for now Harold

CMH and Aronson's Ring and Rubber Band are the only ones I do.
I never knew there was a video of it on his site, thanks for the tip cataquet.

This is my rubber band routine.
Crazyman's Handcuffs, Traveling Cash, The Broken and Restored Rubber band Michael Ammars Card on Ceiling, Lazy Man's Card Trick, Rubber Band Surprise. All these trick work well together. I hope you give it a try.

Crazy Mans Handcuffs is utterly fantastic if performed right. Copperfield does a superb job of it, but although Ammar apparently taught the trick to him, Ammar's handling is nowhere near as powerful (in my opinion) to Copperfield's.
I'm just going off Ammars performance on his Classic Renditions tape. Anyone else think this? |
