WOW I've discovered quite a few goodies hidden within the Aronson Stack, but you're not gonna believe this. Other than a possible false shuffle/cut, here's a brand new demonstration with no sleight of hand, based on a common card game which almost everyone plays or is familiar with. You demonstrate your mastery over the deck by demonstrating that you can do what most people find very difficult, if not impossible. While it's subject to a couple of assumptions, you should be able to do this with ease every time. Interested? Wondering is this is a teaser ad for something you're going to have to buy? Nope. Read on and all will be revealed for you free of charge right here on the good ole Magic Café. What I have discovered is this: If you cut the Queen of Diamonds to the top, and assuming that you began with the cards in Aronson Stack order... you are now in position to deal, play, and win a game of Solitaire!!! You'll want to throw in a false shuffle and cut before you start. This assumes that you play Solitaire with the same rules that I do. I play the game as you find it in the games section of Windows. It's called the "Las Vegas" game. You start by dealing seven piles, and you turn over cards in the talon in groups of three. This is, I believe, the most common game of Solitaire. You can switch to the version where you deal cards from the Talon singly. It works, too. It will NOT work if you miss any possible plays, and near the end you'll need to do some creative but perfectly legal moves. So, Happy April Fools everybody. Oh, my discovery works as advertised, but the prerequisite for using it is that you have an audience that enjoys watching someone play Solitaire. Sorry, but no, I won't volunteer to be in your audience. I find it boring to actually play the game. Even this time, when I was on a mission to make this discovery, the 21 games I had to play to discover this were about my limit. I may play Solitaire again, but probably not in this Century. Your discovery has at least two side benefits: First, this gives you something to do when you don’t have any audience. It’s always fun to win, and here you win every time. Second, it’s the closest anyone has come to going from Aronson stack to New Deck Order! Mergel

Yea, but Dennis, when you pick up the piles you're not reset!

To Magicmike 1949,
Yes, but as Mergel says, I'm almost in New Deck Order. (I am in European New Deck Order.) Doesn't that count for something? Dennis Loomis

Actually, someone else has brought this up in the past. Can't remember who, but I remember reading about being able to do a perfect solitaire game with the Aronson Stack. Not an apllication I personally ever chose to delve into...

Hi Scott,
I'm a little surprised that someone else had wasted their time to discover this, but it's fine. Not something I'm ever going to claim credit for or publish, other than maybe mentioning it in passing. If you thing of the name, do let me know and I can mention it if I do put it on my website. And so we now have a way to get from Aronson to New Deck to Tamariz... if you can get your audience to watch a game of solitaire. Holding a gun to their head might work... Dennis Loomis

Las Vegas is the version where cards from the stock are turned over singly. I only checked because I needed a reminder as to how the cards are dealt in the tableau; I'll have to try this most excellent idea. Thank you Dennis for sharing it with us. Larry P.S. I'm wondering if what Scott is referring to was Mary Mowder's Memorized Deck Solitaire from Dennis' own Smoke and Mirrors #18!? |

And this just dropped into my mailbox yesterday.
Now if you could only set it up to use the Aronson stack with the Jerry's... http://www.jerrysnuggetplayingcards.com/game_solitaire.html |
