Any suggestions for some opening lines for the burning Bible to begin a short sermon on the difference between magic tricks and God's true miracles aimed mostly at children? thank you, Glen

It's hot because it's the best selling book of all time. (as an aside, it's also the most shoplifted, another type of "hot" Smile

Children know "This Little Light of Mine," tie in with the fire's light.
Christ is the "light of the world"

can use during stories about the burning bush, etc.

Of course, when the time comes to speak about Hell...

Man has tried to destroy the Bible for hundreds of years. They have banned it, denounced it, and even tried to burn it. (poof) But you can see God's Word remains undamaged, in fact, the Bible is indestructable because God said His Word is eternal. Man can not destroy God's Word.
You can go into more detail with several of the points mentioned.

I'm going to preach today from the book of Revelations, (opening book) second thought, (closing the book) that may be too hot of a topic right now, we'll get back to that later.

The link below will take you to a pdf download of a Conjurer article showing how to make your own prop plus some lines/routine ideas:

Note: I just checked this link and it's not hot - must be too long to work properly. However, it will work if you cut and paste the entire link.

If you still have a problem with the link go to http://www.kistlerministry.org/magic and click on the article called "What Bible Version Do You Use?"

Tally ho,
Kerry

If I understand you correctly, you desire to apply this specific effect with the message on tricks vs. true miracles. This is challenging enough without adding the 3rd requirement of being "for children," but perhaps you can tweak the following to fit your purpose. One idea is to discuss how the devil often offers a counterfeit ( "a fake copy" in kids terms) for the real things that only God can offer. At this point I am more inclined to go with an effect such as an appearing cane to represent the snakes that Pharaoh's magicians produced in response to Moses' staff that turned into a snake. (especially if you want to avoid doing fire for kids) This fits your message but should you prefer to stick to your burning Bible effect, how about discussing how the followers of Baal could not summon down fire to consume their offering to that false god. But the the true God of the Bible really can do miracles and even consumed the offering after being drenched in water. (Now I'm thinking you could pour water into a cup with slush powder to represent the water that was poured onto the offering, and then of course as you pour it onto your Bible, the water actually vanishes and then you open your Bible to a burst of consuming flames. Only the God of the Bible is in the business of doing real miracles). As I finish this up, another thought comes to mind. If I'm not mistaken, there is a passage in Revelations that mentions trickery of one calling down fire from heaven so that men will be deceived. --Scott

LOL. Yeah, Gary, and I'd have my music cued to AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" upon the production of flames (and don't forget the smoke machine).

I use my flaming Bible like this. God revealed Moses through a burning bush, and he reveals himself to us through this book. I shortened it a lot.

Kerry ... your website is a treasure trove. Thank you for posting all of this wonderful material at http://www.kistlerministry.org/magic . I'll have to see about the burning bible. The music site is great. I especially enjoyed all of those television songs that I had heard so long ago.
Thanks again.

Doug,

It is reported that Mark Twain said he could live for a whole month on one good compliment. I agree. There is power in encouragement. Thanks for taking the time to bless me.

...In flaming fire, taking vengance on those who know not and obey not the gospel. Ok, may that Scripture would be a little too heavy.

I use the scripture Luke 24:32 where the two disciples were walking with Jesus and was talking with him but He had not revealed Himself to them and they did not know who He was and they said "Did not our hearts burn within us by the way and while He opened to us the scriptures?" I talk about how His word will burn within us as we get closer to him.
