What do you do when your venue decides to cancel without informing you?
do you still charge? at least something? strike THEM off?
or let it slide this once if they rebook?
what are your thoughts??

There's normally a charge dependent on how much notice is given. ie:
3 mths notice = no fee
1 mths notice = 50%
on the same week = I'd ask for the whole fee.
In fact I did this last summer (I actually think you might know about this one 'asithlord') and asked for the whole £400 (not a huge fee I know). Not only was I paid but I received an apology and an enquiry to book me this year with the promise they will not cancel. Classy people. Not only will I say yes but as a token of goodwill I'll make a financial donation to the company's charity (off the fee of course).

Once they've booked me, they pay me.

The contract states that if the show is cancelled for any other reason than war, national mourning, strike etc then the FULL fee is due.

When marketing yourself at the start or anytime its smart not to charge. Infact "if you don't fill the room or get sell enough tickets you owe me nothing" is a good marketing asset.

Risk reversal. If you are booking most of your shows then I would adopt the above. It will set you apart from the rest and take away the risk from those that book you.

You might get the odd cancellation but in general you will get a lot more bookings that will make up for it.

Another day in history. I am in total agreement with MP.
The occasional cancelation comes and it sucks, but in reality, it pays in the long run becasue I make it no hasle to do business with me. An occasional cancelation is the cost of doing business. People like calling me for future events, because I am VERy easy to deal with...

Thanks for sharing,
its not something I would like to do but hey that's business as they say,
call me stupid but as ive been in the venue a few times and had successfull/busy shows in the past, I never anticipated a cancellation.

hmmmm,
this gives me several off shoots............
much love

Bobser thanks,
your fee is not to be sniffed at,
you may think you are worth more and maybe you are but times are hard now and that's "not too shabby"
I would be pleased at receiving that for feck all!!!!
glad to hear you are rebooked
it turns out the owner of my cancelled gig sold up and moved out that week
the new people didn't care about the old way and would rather be settled in before promoting their new place.
silly.
much love
