So. We can pay you $100 to match a set of 4 walkers. Or we could custom order from Todd Lassen or schoolcraft and get 4 matched coins and a shell for around $125?
Seems ridiculous to me. Really all the true coin magicians I know take pride in finding their coins and using them, it's not an inconvenience. Good Luck trying to get your target audience back... Pete

$6 or $7 each is what you are going to pay in any coin shop. 25 bucks is rediculous.

Thanks very much, everyone, for your helpful comments.
I had not done any research about pricing of such halves before starting this thread. The $25 was a price that I pulled out of thin air, based on the time I figured it would take me to match the coins, deal with each order, ship the coins, answer questions, etc. What is the consensus on a fair price per coin? $15 each for Walkers? $19 each for Barbers? I can't guarantee that I will sell the coins at whatever price is agreed on as the consensus of an "appropriate" price on this thread, but I am open to sincerely listening to the price that the market (ie, this forum) sets, and would love to arrive at a price that is agreeable for everybody. Thanks. My best, Jim

For what it's worth (sic), albeit not that much, last year I bought, from a local coin dealer, four Morgan dollar slicks, 2-1884, 1-1890, 1-1899, (date distinguishable and lots of detail still evident) for $11 each. Twice the coin of a 1930-ish Walker or Barber half.
FWIW (For price comparison.)

Depending on how business is that week, there is usually a wide selection of Kennedy's, Walkers and even a few Barbers -- all for $6 a piece! No key dates, of course, but occasionally there are some XF, VF and even AU's in there... no joke, the other day I found an AU 1940 Walker that could probably pass as uncirculated; paid $6 for it, but it's worth at least 4 times that. Well, I should stop rambling and ruining your attempt to scam people out of money... good luck with that ^_^ Best Wishes, Kyle Czarnecki |

Running rate for silver 1/2 troy z's in nyc is $6. that's or what we call culls. No more no less. As others have suggested prior. If you're looking to maximize your income on these coins you'll need to run through them and identify coins with key collector dates and conditions and post them on ebay.
This is not you're audience for premium prized culls. |

I don't think I could bring myself to pay anymore than 7 bucks each when you add shipping.

I just found a local coin shop and they were very helpful. They let me wad through their bullion coins to find matching coins. I now have a set of (6) 1921 Walking Liberty coins, (6) 1918 Walking Liberties and(5) 1906 Barbers. Each set is matched and I got them all for between 7 and 12. This weekend I picked up 4 Morgans for 17 a piece. Again, they let me dig through about 75 coins to find the ones I like. I highly recommend building a relationship with your local coin shop. I hope these current prices helped you set your rate. Good luck.

I just got some Barbers for $8 a piece. I was allowed to pick them myself from a bucket and easily found matching coins.
Months before, I got some Walking Liberties for $7 each, all matching of course. I also got Colombian Exposition Coins, $7.50 each. I got to pick all of the coins I wanted from a bucket of coins and matching coins were easily found. $25, even $12, is way too much for a single coin. |

I have walked around with 1943 half dollar for a while. Not too small and not too big. Local coin shop is the place to go.
$17 is too much, especially when shipping is additional. Allan |

I agree that that at even $10 each this is too high. I hope you only paid about the scrap silver value, or you will probably be stuck with them for a while.
I bought several nice condition Walkers BEFORE silver went up at $4.50 - $6.00 each. IMHO, these are really not worth much more that the price of their silver content in any large city which has coin shops. I've personally seen buckets full of these "cull grade" at coin shops for just little above their silver value. Dave |

Hi, everyone.
Thanks for the excellent and informative replies on this thread, and in PMs. It appears that a lot of folks already have good local coin shops where they can go, and it seems a lot of folks don't mind picking through bags of half dollars to find the ones they want. That certainly is a great way to save money. Anyone who doesn't want to do that can PM me anytime for a photo and a private quote on a set of worn matching halves. There are also some other good sources for worn matching halves listed on Page 1 of this thread, such as themagicwarehouse.com, Todd Lassen, and schoolcraft - so be sure to shop around. Best regards, Jim
