They forget the ultimata grimoire: 'le calendrier magique' by Croze and Orazi, 1895 (for the year 1896).
My all time favourite.
Doug, I forgot to thank you: Circus of the Scars is excellent.

I would have included Abramelin before such as "Little Albert" and a couple of others.

Hi Doug,

Just ordered Circus of the Scares -- I've always enjoyed sideshow stuff -- BTW, do you subscribe to the Sideshow_World (a yahoo group) -- it has some interesting tidbits Smile

Still looking forward to my goodies from you Smile

DOUG...I NEED TO THANK YOU AS WELL!
I Finished Circus of the Scars last week and YES...it was a terrific book...I was swept along with it. The additional "diary" aspects were particularly fun. Parting with the "mascot" was moving.

Great book!

Yep! I still can't get over the outstanding writing from a 1st time author. I wonder if in all this time if he has written any other books? Haven't seen any. I know Ashliegh Talbot is very prolific with new Posters of her art work.

I might mention...Those who read it or are reading it...Careful what you give away...there is a 'surprise' that is very cool.

...take a look at the third book of Trithemius' Steganographia, which has lists of spirits and the barbarous incantations by which they can be compelled to do the bidding of the magician. The book influenced Dee, and many later grimoire writers, and was placed on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. A Mathemagician finally broke the seals on the accursed tome in the late 1990s, and brought to light its darkest, most vile, secrets. What he revealed has colored my perception of all later derivative works. Its truly occult stuff, and a sublime example of our magic and the (mis)directions we may take it...

Hmm sometimes I just don't know what to think of some of the posts here... *lol*

Okay, who of you is into conjuring spirits and evoking demons and who's not?
And do you REALLY believe in that kind of stuff?

I mean, you guys are all magicians! You all know how to "fake" stuff like seances, etc...

Steganographia was a book of cryptography and codes. Tables of spirit names and astrological information were cyphers and long demonic incantations were codes. The whole coded text was about the process of making codes. It influenced hundreds of years of derivative 'occult' work, but had nothing to do with the occult. A cryptographer cracked it in 1996. Magic and misdirection on the grandest scale...an intelligent joke and a ruse on Trithemius' part.

Somehow the "Steganographia" story reminds me of the Voynich manuscript...

Anyway, thanks for enlighten me.
