I just learned that someone is making a new Three stooges movie. Man, their stepping on holy ground, that's all I can say.
Sean Penn as Larry?? Why not Billy West? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMYUsLsVI_0 Jim Carrey as Curley? As good as Carrey is, I just can not bring myself to believe he will be able to pull this one off. It's going to be "Jim Carrey doing an impersonation of Curley Howard." Mark my words. Looking into my crystal ball, I can only see that this one is bound for flopdom.

Billy Bob Thornton should be invited! He and Sean and we have a winner...
I can't believe his potatoes insult! Thornton called Canadian concert-goers "mashed potatoes with no gravy" in a radio interview Wednesday after sparring w/a Canadian radio host during a contentious interview. He's one tussle potatoes all right!

It was a pretty comical interview. Apparently Billy Bob didn't want the interviewer to mention that he was an actor. He didn't seem to understand that he wouldn't be on the show for his musical talent.
Of course, some say that the interviewer was being a jerk and some say he was just doing his job. Either way, it was pretty funny. John

Somebody is looking for the $$$ here. An all star cast rather a bunch of unknowns who look and act the part. I love Jim Carey, but he is not Curley. He may be able to sound and inflect like him, but he can not move like he did.
As to the other two... feh.

That's what I'm saying. If your gonna do the Stooges, do 'em right, or you got a big eye poke and a conk on the noggin with a crow bar comin, lamebrain.
Carrey is not Curley..not even in a fat suit. There are surely a handful of others out there who can pull it off half way decent..but Jim will just be doing his Curley impersonation...and even I can do that,(hire me) and a thousand other chowder heads. I think it will probably be stomach turning watching these guys trying to fill their shoes for 90 minutes. I doubt if I'll even darken the theater doors. It's like when they tried to make "The Munsters" remakes years back. Sorry, no cigar. Gwynne and Lewis were da boss. When you are used to the best, nothing else will do. Guys like me are Stooges connoisseurs, we GREW UP on the knuckleheads. As I said, touching Stooges is tromping on Holy ground... Is nothing sacrosanct, nowadays?

You don't DO the Stooges, I agree. You also don't do the Marx brothers. You also don't do Peter Sellers....
My son wanted to see Pink Panther 2. I refused out of moral principle, and ordered the DVDs of the real movies to watch with my son. I cannot possibly begin to tell you how much respect I lost for Steve Martin. Yes, there is an awful lot of money involved, but we're talking about people who already have an awful lot of money. Yes, I'd sell out for 100 million dollars. Sure I would. And if I claimed otherwise, all of you would know I was lying. BUT: BUT! ...I swear upon all that I find holy in the entire universe: if I had 100 million dollars, you couldn't possibly, ever, in a billion years and with a thousand triple-dog dares and a million pretty-pleases get me to do anything to compromise my moral and ethical and artistic principles for just one million more.... I've exaggerated the numbers to make my point, but I'm dead serious. I cannot believe that Steve Martin had the financial necessity to create such sacrilege. |

After seeing Carrey's Andy Kaufman I'd be happy for him to do Curly, Moe and Larry.

I'm looking forward to the movie. I really enjoyed the 2000 film with Michael Chiklis, Paul Ben-Victor and Evan Handler. Chiklis did an awesome job of capturing Curly. I'll reserve judgment until I see the flick. Carrey has pulled off some great characterizations, so I'm confident that he'll capture Jerry's persona. Personally, I'm having a MUCH harder time seeing Sean Penn as Larry Fine.
I love the Stooges and had the opportunity to meet Moe just before he passed during an appearance at Ohio State in the early 70's.

Be aware that the plan is not to make a bio-pic (The Chiklis one was great), but a 3 stooges movie, combining elements from several of the Columbia shorts.
