Hey guys,
So my friend and I registered a booth for a local trade show next month. We have banners, flyers, and a give-away product: A discount card for their next event, and on the back of it, we will direct them to a web video that teaches them a simple trick to amaze their friends - which also leads to our official sites for bookings. Of course, we will also have a bowl for attendants to drop their business cards, as well as a sign-up sheet for our e-newsletter. I will love to hear some advice from some of the workers here. Please let us know if there's anything else we might be missing. Your input will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you.

What type of trade show is it? What magic will you be doing to stop traffic and draw a constant crowd in front of your booth?

Its a chamber of commerce B2B trade show.
As for what tricks to draw them in? I have my fire wallet and my partner is also a busker. Considering there are only 4 booths out of the hundreds that belong to the entertainment field, we should stand out from others already. That's our initial plan

Better clear that fire wallet in advance with wherever the venue is -- some places will not allow an open flame, it's against local building/safety codes.
I'm sure it would be a great attention-getter, but just make sure you can use it. SETH

Have someone available to write down info cuz you and your little friend will be too busy doing magic.

Nash, once you draw them in with the fire wallet do you have a pitch? Most trade show performers start a trick and inject a sales message so while the crowd is waiting for the climax of the magic they hear the pitch.

Dang, no I don't have a pitch during the trick.
That's a very very very good point, we will most definitely work on that. Also, very good point about getting someone else to write down info too. Man, sooo many things to learn, thank you so much guys.

If you've got a busker there, you're okay.

What type shows are you interested in booking at the trade show? Seems like that will make a difference in what tricks you do and what your pitch is.

So we can't use the fire wallet. Guess I will bust out my insta-cube for attraction.
Since it is a chamber of commerce trade show, we will be concentrating on booking company parties, corporate gigs. I will also be pitching my wedding shows in case someone mentions weddings.

Sorry to hear about the fire wallet, but I sort of suspected that might happen.
BTW, when you give out your business card to someone, ALWAYS ask for one of theirs in return. Since this is a trade show attended by other businesses, that should be an expected and reasonable request. When you're done, you should have a nice pile of business cards to use for future leads/contacts. Have you thought about using a small PA? Not for amplification, but just for sound reinforcement, so that the people in the immediate area of the booth can clearly hear you, and you don't have to shout all day long. Something in the neighborhood of 25-30 watts would be just fine. Keep the volume low enough that you don't annoy adjacent vendors; the PA should basically not be seen or heard, doing its job invisibly, as it were. SETH

A drawing of some sort will increase the number of cards collected. A ballot form may be the best way, as you can say you will notify the winner by e-mail, you can also advise that by them giving you their number you will add them to your newlestter (where you will also have an "opt out" option for them). I have used gift baskets in this instance, usually purchased from a fellow chamber member. They will usually do up a nice one, and for the occasion (ie. extra tall) it is good exposure for them also. If you are affiliated with a party store, they may also be willing to contribute to your booth there. A table display etc. Blair
