Hi. I'm Scott Baird.
This is my routine that combines Beijing coins Across by Curtis Kam with Sanada's Wildcoin routine. A few surprises I threw in for me, and a clever little JW Change that I really like, as well. Let me know what you guys think! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_EugnzIGNE (Also, credit to Shoot Ogawa for the NERD style vanish sequence, but the reproductions are ALL ME BABY! WOO!) Scott. |

A lot going on and some real nice changes, transpositions etc. Very nice! I do like the transpos from silver to Chineese and back and there are some very nice touches here so great job! I don't mind it being 5 mins long but for me personally, I loose interest before the end.

Hehee, I LOVED that! It was near perfect. The motivation for it all was great and you seemed ver comfortable speaking in front of a camera. I liked the little JW changeovers too! There were a few parts where you got a little bit shaky but nobodys perfect Do you do this routine professionaly? Oh and it also had a lot of comedy. Nice work!

Hey Scott,
The routine looked great man. I really enjoyed it and the presentation as well. Great stuff! To everyone else, I was able to get a sneak peek at some of Scott's work a while back and I must say he's got some great material! Whenever he decides to put it out, I'd highly recommend it. I can't wait myself lol -Bill |

I also think that was great. Good comedy to keep the audience's attention, and some excellent smoves (official new word I just created) .

Rizzo,
It IS too long. But it's a segmented routine, that could really be stopped at any one point (the patter I normally use doesn't promise the final trick of hanging the coins in the air... I said that on the video to hopefully keep you watching all 5 mins Performing this in real life, I usually keep the routine to about three minutes or so, depending on the level of interaction I'm getting from my audience. Ocha, I'm glad you liked the... "smoves". A google search brings up results that say you liked these: http://www.cultpens.com/acatalog/Stabilo_S_Move_Easy.html Mark, Pablo, thanks for the comments and compliments! There WERE shaky and unnatural parts, but it is still a work in progress, and I'm glad to have the feedback Keeps my ego in check. Bill, I must again thank you for the kind words. And I promise, you won't have to wait much longer. I just keep finding things to add to my book, and am having a hard time deciding when enough is really enough! Scott. PS: I love the Café. Nobody questions why I'm standing in the shower. |

Scott,
BRavo, I just wanted you to know that our team of viewers at the coinmedia watch center here at cKhmagic, located on the top floors of the lovely T. Nelson Downs Plaza, are jumping up and down with excitement after seeing your video. They see a lot of stuff, but your piece was exemplary in a lot of ways. First of all, it uses sequences from "Fists of Fury " that are rumored to be impossible. Yet you have not only used them well, but you have altered them in good ways. The team was especially impressed that you did the fingertip wildcoin sequence twice, without fainting from sheer exhaustion. Secondly, it is great to see someone take Sanada's sequnce seriously. We came away from the Sanada disc playing with that sequence, as well. Congratulations on the one-handed change. You know the one. Looks good. Third, mega-bonus points for making the whole experience fun. Lots of people forget to do that, mostly because they're sweating blood from the moves, which can be distracting. Fourth, kudos for the JW work. Verry interesting..... Finally, the viewing team here did ask why you shot the routine in the shower. I told them it was so you could end clean. Thanks for a good time, and I hope to see more.

Another reason to love the Café- the guys whos material you slave over for months come by to chat!
I hear you are lecturing in Calgary (Alberta, Canada) in November, Mr. Kam, so you can see more at that time if you like! I'm stoked to get to see your magic up close and personal. It's already marked in my Calendar, and so is the week after... for "follow-up practice". I'm glad you aren't verbally assassinating me for using classic palm for this routine, when technically speaking, Downs palm is the better choice (regarding the sequences from Fists of Fury). I'm just more comfortable with my CP. How did you like the opening "surprise" of the Chinese coins? Also, good shower line. I like it. Wish I had thought of that... gotta pull out the Rich Marotta Comedy Writing Guide and take a look at what I missed... All kidding aside... I've done a bit of work (for my own use) on the JW grip, what with the one handed change at the start and the productions at the end of the Ogawa stuff. I'm glad you found that interesting.... but interesting, as in "good"? or interesting, as in "what the heck is this JW abomination"? I'll take "interesting" as it is, however. I guess not ALL kidding was aside... Scott. PS: Love that Sanada one-handed change, but it IS a toughy. Nice to have someone who knows. PSS: Who all does the "team" consist of??? And CAN I be a CHEERLEADER? |

Very nice routine ^_^ I'm not sure about the "check my watch" move... but in any case, it was without a very skilled and entertaining act.

The last 60 seconds caused my own hands to cramp up watching you. Nice work, really. I liked the "asking the audience to blow on the coin" bit. I wished I had thought of that. Truly, I'm just impressed someone watched a Curtis Kam video all the way through The JW work is really good.
My only critique is that it is a little long (you already acknowledge that) and the last 60 seconds get a little "cozy". But realize this is a minor complaint on an overall great display of technique. Doug |

Scott,
You wouldn't quite fit in with the coin media viewing team, these days we're only using chimps. We had to stop using human test subjects after the last bunch had a nervous breakdown after watching all the Doug Brewer discs back to back. While the brain damage was sadly permanent, most of them were able to find jobs working in the L&L audience. I'm looking forward to November. I thought I'd bring the easy stuff, but I'm rethinking that now. And I meant "interesting" as in "Hmmm, I might be able to use that....and tell people it was my idea..." that sort of "interesting".

Bring me the hard stuff... and everyone else the kiddie fun. Oh, and I'll take a copy of Deceptions in Paradise off your hands if one happens to find a way into your hands...
...And Doug... he just got you. OH-SNAP! (And thank you for watching the video). ...interesting... Scott. |

In the past I always went with new things..these days I like to go back and recyle things back into my programs.
Bejing and other stuff from Curtis K, were things from moving from books/manuscripts to DVD's. (an old dog can be taught in new methods. I remember talking with a few magicians that thought this type of effect was not worth the effort. This guy is greatful that many think that way... Of course this guy also uses 2 minutes with a stick, (from a tree) and duct tape...making a nearly normal ying to yang approach to entertaiment. My thoughts to produce a small bonsai tree may be too much as a finale?

Very nice work! I liked that you personalized Curtis routine to your style - the effect isn't easy to begin with. Kudos to you.

Curtis knows he nailed me badly with that Beijing routine standing at the Castle bar one evening (this was before he had released it). He held out those Chinese coins for about 20 minutes then gave me the ol' "let me show you something I'm working on" bit. Killed me. My long term goal is still to convert all of Curtis' routines using a Triple Threat gimmick - nothing makes him shake his head more than that
Good work, though. And you did personalize his Beijing routine nicely (should have mentioned that too). |

Wow. Amazing. You seem so relaxed and smooth, only those who have attempted Beijing would know you're doing some of the hardest stuff out there. The one-handed changes are especially magical and unexpected. Your routine and presentation are definitely up there with the best.
