Doug, you made my day, these are great shots!
I've diven a lot of stakes in my day (still do!) but thankfully never had to do this set up for our shows. We drive about 30 or so for a Flying Trapeze rig, maybe 12 for the small rig and fortunately only 4 to 6 for the single rig which takes care of the majority of our outdoor work. I have a jack hammer driver but can still sling a 20lb sledge if need be. I do envy those big shows though as it's the real deal. Anytime a magician talks about how hard a show is, I'll take them out on a real lot and let them drive the stakes before unloading the truck! Thanks again! Ray

I just uploaded a 3-D shot for those with Anaglyph glasses.
I do 3-D using a normal SLR camera (Nikon). There's a fun 'trick' you can do at the photo. I think I put it on the tird page. oh...thanks for the comments.

Hi Doug,
Those photos are great! I spent 5 years traveling with the RIngling show so we didn't have to put up a tent but there was still a lot of work to do on move in, and move out days. One night I was visiting a friend who was working for the Great American Circus, it was move out night and after the show we went into his trailer to have dinner. When we went in the trailer the big top was up, all the lights were on, and the music was playing loudly. When we came out of the trailer a few hours later, everything was gone! There was just an empty field and a perfectly clear starry sky. It was one of the strangest, saddest moments of my life. Thanks for the 3-D photo too. My daughter had some 3-D glasses and it looked great. We're looking forward to Part 2! Steve |

I only saw the first page the first time I looked. I didn't see the image for more. Well I was blown away by the first page. You shot allot of amazing images Doug! I really enjoyed it (especially after finding the other two pages) and I am sharing it with my circus friends. Thank you again.

Thanks.
Will: there are 4 pages so far. ;-) Those who have Museum: Mysteria have a pair of 3-D glasses. Those from the comic books (old or new) work fine. Next week, I'll probably have more photos that are color 3-D though I prefer black and white versions.

There's nothing like the sound of stakes being driven, combined with the smell of fresh sawdust shavings and the tang of elephant sh@t to start your morning...wouldn't give it up for anything.....nice shots Doug!!!

Your most welcome.
Use http://ShowPhoto.info for a short address. The next set? The only show we have tickets for at this time is the Seseme Street Live coming in June. Spectacular Costuming that should make for interesting pictures IF they let me shoot some. I like LIVE shows of all kinds as you can see. Well...not ALL kinds...

There were two pitches. Both spoken by the Ringmaster 'Junior'. They were very straight forward...not too much passion or gimmicks and both VERY fast.
Don't get me wrong...Junior is an excellent old fashioned Ring Master with a powerful delivery...he just didn't sell too many Peanuts or Coloring Books that I saw. Of course we bought both...and the Cotton candy. The Peanuts supposedly had a 'token' in the bag if you were lucky...you could get a nice (large) balloon on a stick. Only saw two people get the balloons (and the others were not for sale either.) Peanuts were $2 and the Color book was $2. If you bought a color book AND had your own camera, you were able to take a picture with Alex (Star Cl;own) after the show...Thus the last picture on my site. There were only a few people lined up. Of course the house was pretty light anyway. They'll be there for 10 days...OUCH. Vargas was just on the same lot at the beginning of the month. I sure wish them the best as they are a great bunch of folks...really was a Happy crew. One problem with the show is they are short TWO families of performers!!! As you know a 'Family' does about 3 acts. Well there are Visa problems for two familes...and this causes the show to 'make do' with weaker acts from a single family that does 5 or 6 acts! It will work out as the season progresses. It's the 3rd week of the new smaller 4 pole Tent as opposed to the 8 pole monster show they had for 72 years or so. This year was the 1st time C&B had to cancell dates because of problems with the new tent. (since solved.)

To continue:
A 3 bull act instead of 20 (remember that show Jim?). All the acts were pretty much perfunctory and would have been other than Center ring with Ringling YET all were pretty much entertaining. I was told they will be stepping up the quality and strength of the acts once the Visas are cleared. Standouts were Alex and the 3 bull act. Alex as a Clown is actually funny as hell...great moves and 'takes' and also does a trampoline act. There is a trapeze act which is ok...the catcher also does 4 other acts with his kids and wife etc. The Contortionist kid was good (VERY fem though and he needs to smile rather than purse his lips and twitch his shoulder)...he's young and quite skilled so he'll come around. One glaring indication that the show is not complete with enough acts is that 2 different times in the first section there were arial acts featuring the long pieces of flowing cloth hanging from a mirror ball. I'm being extra critical for you guys but the Wife loved the show and the crowd seemed to be ok with it. Only Alex had them roaring with laughter and really responding though. The 'Spec' was actually repeated...once at the end of the first section and again as the finale. Same costumes etc. and the announcement 'And Now a tribute to America and the red White and Blue!" Only the in the finale it featured the huge American flag as you see it on the site. Thing is they are well aware of the limitations and not happy with that and can't wait to get the show stronger and up to their standards. Kudos for that! All in all it was a bargain for two hours of good entertainment. I would love to see it again when they get the show they wanted to present in the first place. My ONLY picky complaint is that the dog act was pretty weak and the poodles shabby looking and unkempt (ie: dirty). Maybe the groomer didn't show up. The other addition I didn't mention is that during the break there is the Elephant rides and a BIG albino python you can have your photo taken with around your neck for $7. 2 takers that I saw. Outside there was an inflatable jump and inflatable 'slide'...both have seen better days. The 'Petting Zoo' had some Goats and a closer look at the Zebra and the Pygmy Hipp. It was a $1 to go in and feed the goats. I saw no one on the other side of the fence. The elephant rides were steady FULL...the Camel, I only saw Lori ride it for $4.
