Hello everyone,
First, BIGGGGG thanks for all your support for Caleb and his work. Andi and I feel really great about representing hi. We're just touched that there has been so much interest (and I know Caleb is, too). Now, the version I perform on Vanishing Inc Magic IS slightly different than what is described, but if you read Caleb's handling and watch my video, you'll instantly know how and what I'm doing. The REASON I handle the last two cards differently is simply because I happen to like the smoothness of the shaking change best as a "last" card change. But that's just a personalization to his routine. What is nice and worth sharing, I think, is a little touch Juan Tamariz uses sometimes. And it fits perfectly here. This part will only make sense to High Spots readers, but here goes: the idea is that, at the end, since you can only show three Aces (as four), you can use some VERBAL deception to REALLY convince people you have four Aces. Everything is working for you here, too. Once you turn over the packet at the end and announce there are four Aces, the heat is off. And if you situate that packet so you have, say, the Ace of Diamonds on the face, proceed as follows: Cover Ace of Diamonds pip with your left thumb pad. Now go through the Elmsley slowly, but narrate the names of all four Aces a LITTLE BIT out of sync. That is, count the first Ace and AS it goes out of view, say, "That's the Ace of Hearts [this is a miscall], Clubs, Spades, and Diamonds." Since only the first one is miscalled, and it isn't miscalled until after it is out of view, they HEAR you name all four Aces and SEE you count three of them VERY clearly. End result: they will remember SEEING four different Aces. Reswindled truly is a great trick, but I'm glad to see people are buzzing about some of the other, lesser-known material in the collection too. 26 is one of my favorites, so I'm glad to see people are discovering that one, too. Thanks everyone, and I hope these little touches help! Josh http://www.vanishingincmagic.com |

Josh,
I picked up on the misread and have added that into my presentation as well. It does add a nice touch. I have also really liked the work you guys are doing at Vanishinginc. I had a great customer service experience with Andi the other day and as a result just ordered High Spots and Holy Blank. I hope to get 52 Memories next. Keep up the good work. |

I think in certain situations the miscall will be a very good addition although quite honestly, when these cards are now seen to be aces, the spectators brain is fried and there vision blurred anyway!

Rizzo,
Good point. My experience is by the second Jack "switch" it's all gravy from there on and I usually see a bit of drool on the specs face by the Aces. Real Good Magic!!! |

Including Card on Ceiling, Card in Lemon, Card in Wallen, Card in Pocket, AND Card in Balloon, but leaving out something like Reset because it's not as good as any one of them, is like having a rock band with 4 guitars and no bass. BTW I'm not saying that it *IS* true; I'm saying that even if that's your rationale, it would be a good one to mix in. THanks for the thread and the demo, all...I'm going to pick this one up.

As I stated, I do find the routine brilliant, but my personal preference is that it plays strongest when I perform for magicians, and the other effects are more talked about by a lay audience. I think when doing parlour work or table hopping, then I will only have "reputation makers" or effects the audience remembers and talks about in my act. Not a lot of card effects really qualifies, I think actually Bill Malone stated that from all his effects the audience normally remebered only 3 effects after the show and that was Cards Across, Card to ceiling and his performance of the Invisible deck, that kind of say a lot from a man who devoted his carreer mainly on card tricks. And when you mix card tricks in between linking rings, and other classics than only a few will be talked about. I think Caleb Willis "26" will have a greater chance of being a "reputation maker" toward a lay audience, whereas his reswindled effect will be the "talk of town" between magicians. Both absolut astonishing and high class material. |

It's nice to see Caleb *finally* getting some recognition for _Reswindled_. I've been using it since it was first printed in MAGIC magazine in 2006 and it is by far my favorite version of Reset. The gambling theme gives it more meaning than a standard "hey look, the cards traded places" type of presentation and makes it more interesting for laymen. This is a great effect with very easy setup. I just bought his book and look forward to seeing what other gems await my discovery.

Just ordered "High Spots" and I look forward to learning Reswindled along with all else Caleb has to offer in this book!
MMc Posted: May 7, 2009 2:34pm -------------------------------- Received my copy of High Spots the other day and even on the first and quick perusal I was very happy with my purchase! "Reswindled" is just about as cool as it gets and when the creator of the original "Reset" says it's the best handling, that's certainly one helluva compliment! Where as I've only skimmed over the other tricks in the book I believe I will enjoy learning several but if "Reswindled" was the only trick offered, I'd still consider it an excellent purchase and nice add to my library! Good job guys, MMc |

Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm so glad that you all are going out there and performing "Reswindled." I must say that it's a huge honor to see other people using my stuff. Recently a friend of mine sent me a link to Taiwanese magician Lu Chen performing "Reswindled" along with John G's "Color Blind" on Taiwanese TV. It's kind of surreal for me to watch, but it's totally awesome!

Reswindled is part of my daily practice and although I'm not a worker but I do this wonderful routine for people every chance I get! "Little Fella Grows Up" is also part of my daily practice session. I have made a few minor alterations to LFGU to fit my style but this is a great bit done exactly as written!
I'm ranking High Spots as one of my top magic investments for 2009! MMc |

I love High Spots and ReSwindled but I'm afraid my question is just related to the "shaking change" that Joshua Jay uses in his version. Can any of you kind people point me to a reference for this move? I'm interested in using it in another routine and I can't quite master it. :-(

I am assuming that the 'shaking change' you refer to is the move he uses for the forth jack jumping across.
I believe the move he uses is a slight modification of Guy Hollingworth's 'Optical Alignment' move, published on Pg 21 of 'Drawing Room Deceptions', but using only two cards instead of a four of a kind like Guy uses it. The Hollingworth alignment is related to an earlier move by Larry Jennings named the 'Optical Toss', which was published on pg 12 of 'the Classic Magic of Larry Jennings' by Mike Maxwell Hope this helps thanks Jon |

Josh uses the change you mention when he performs the routine. He describes the mechanics in the June 2006 issue of MAGIC Magazine where Reswindled first appeared.
Hope this helps, Caleb http://www.calebwiles.blogspot.com

Nice routine. Though not keen on reset for some reason, a little cluttered.
I prefer somthing like Sadowitz's Come Together, a beautiful, simple effect. |
