A while Back someone posted that they were going to start a Birthday day party show in a mall where the client was going to come to them, they were going to video tape the show and give it to the birthday child as a gift at the end of the show. Does anyone remember what I am talking about I tried to do a search but couldn't find it.
My Question is for the original poster... Did this ever get off the ground and is it a success. So many times you read posts like this and never find out the end result.

That was me and the mall shows are still moving forward. For those of you not familiar, I am setting up a magic theater, and have the parties come to me.
The rent for the property is the biggest monthly expense and premium mall space is not cheap. However, with the current economic climate in my area, it is getting cheaper. I am in negotiations with 3 major malls in the area that have generous foot traffic. I do not need premium space, I just need to be in the mall. I am looking at a warehouse area in one mall that would be perfect to transform into a theater. It's very affordable! This will allow me to have just a kiosk in the center of the mall for visibility. I am also able to perform at other malls to help promote the business. The hook that separates me from the competition, is the DVD and the routines designed for the special guest. Not to mention, the show is filled with animatronics, music, cartoon sound effects, and interactivity. This is not just a show that you come and watch. 4 shows for 4 age groups and at a price that just about any budget can afford. We are literally on the edge of launch. My office is bursting with a theater looking for an affordable home. The fun is about to begin! |

Just curious, MM - why does it have to be a high-value space like a mall or strip mall location?
As you said, your monthly rent and association fees are going to be your major expenses. Mall shops capitalize on walk-in, browser and impulse business. You're not going to have "walk-in" birthday parties. The bulk of our business sought us out and came to us. So, for us, location was not a prime factor. Just for example, Dean Carnegie and Duane Laflin both ran very successful magic theaters & party businesses from a low-rent warehouse and storefront. We were in an out-of-the-way line of shops. Just tossing it out there, MM. I wish you the greatest of success!
