Title: .Perfection by Oz Pearlman
Medium: Routine, DVD instructions Arena: Close Up Available: Any shop, distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies .Perfection is a routine where a part of the deck is taken by a spectator and shuffled while the magician shuffles a part of the deck. The spectator and magician lay down their cards one at a time and they match in value and color. Presented right this plays really well and it does make use of a regular deck of cards, some pre work is required though, meaning you are not going to borrow a deck and jump right in with this one. I think this would make a good opening effect for a set of mentalism because it isn’t a traditional type of card routine. I don’t know if I’d do this as part of a card set because it doesn’t flow, in my opinion, well. As a stand alone piece I like it. Oz Pearlman presents and explains the routine and I had to skip past the presentations because Oz is just hard for me to take and enough is enough. After seeing the routine presented twice I figured out what the routine was, beyond that there was no purpose. The routine itself is very easy to do, the set up only takes a few minutes, and the most difficult aspect is just learning the timing, which isn’t difficult either. Oz, who I think dreams of being a motivational speaker, takes what should have been a ten or 15 minute explanation at the most, and that is if it is really stretched out, and stretches it beyond that and into the area of mind numbing. It took me two sittings to get through the explanation only because I couldn’t take it anymore, I did chuckle when he made a mistake in the explanation but it was no biggie and most wouldn’t notice it as it doesn’t effect the routine except for those that are kind of anal about things. Oz likes to bring up aspects that every magician would also consider because it just makes sense and then act as if it is the most brilliant ideas ever and he’s the only one to come up with it. He isn’t. I understand he wants to add value so people think they are getting their moneys worth but dang, my time is worth money too. There was one section with the explanation and that was great, had it down, then Oz starts again and says the same thing! Man. The quality of the DVD was fine. A descent camera was used, the sound was fine, but the whole vibe was, as I said, motivational speaker BS. So there you have it. A pretty good routine, not earth shaking, but not bad by any means. It is over presented and over explained. If Oz was as good as he clearly believes he is he’d be a monster in the art, but he is just a descent performer with access to a camera. If you can get past Oz and this sounds like an effect that you’ll like then go for it, I think you’ll enjoy performing it. |

I completely agree with everything you said.

MagicSanta, I also echo your opinion on Perfection. Thanks for the review.
