Hi everyone,

I have been working on my card manipulation routine very hard. Another person on the Café posted this and I am just astounded by the fans at the beginning. Does anyone know if I could find this in any books or dvd's, or if these fans have a name. It looks like a normal one handed fan but he curls his middle finger in the middle and does a complete fan I think.

So if anyone can help me find some material on this, I would be very grateful.

Thanks,
Matt

Very cool. I wonder if the fan in his left hand (right side of the screen) is gaffed. It looks a little too perfect, and when he drops it it seems to fall as a unit.

Regardless, he's definitely doing it for real in his right hand, and it's pretty astounding. Hope someone chimes in.

So, Matt, how about a clip of what you have so far?
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

I'm on the tour in Canada right now. So, I can't look at my copy of "New Magic of Japan" until next week.

But, that 360 degree fan on the Youtube clip sure looks like the one that Sanada showed me back in 1983.

When I was in Korea last year, I noticed that Mahka Tendo was selling several Japanese language instructional DVDs of Sanada teaching manipulation.

I wonder if anyone out there knows if Sanada teaches the 360 fan on one of those videos?

Hi Levent,
I have all DVDs on card manipulations that Mahka sells. I will check Sanada`s DVD set
tomorrow. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with this DVD set. Sanada is far from his 1982 FISM level. If I was to recommend Card Manipulation DVDs it would be Sakoh Ultra Card Technique and Nagisa DVDs sold thru Aivideo and Mahka Tendo.

Best,
Bojan

There are a couple 360 fans, the most popular ones are the Sanada fan and the Naoki Ogi fan. There are differences in technique but to me they look the same. If you want to learn them you can download a pdf booklet for about 10 bucks from this "websyte":

http://www.lybrary.com/the-circle-fan-p-612.html - this is the Sanada technique

you can also learn the Naoki Ogi technique from this excellent book, as already stated:

http://geniimagazine.com/kaufman/store/html/69.html

And I think there's an instant download pdf of the Ogi technique (in fact I know there is, because I have it on my hard drive) but I thought it was available from Lybrary.com and now I don't see it listed there???? be warned it takes a lot of stretching of the middle finger tendon!

edit: just thought I'd add that a lot of people , lately, are getting 360 degrees much easier and more evenly from Dan and Dave Buck's
"Carnahan fan". check out the end of THIS vid! (at 59 seconds - warning, the rest of the fans aren't that good)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW03WrQ8vbM

however the Carnahan fan doesn't have the unbroken-continous look of the other fans, but I think it's worth it for the advantages in speed and even-ness.

Um, sorry for the double post but it won't let me edit the above post for some reason. I looked up my pdf and it is in fact the lybrary Sanada fan. I also looked up the Naoki Ogi fan in "new magic of japan" and it is very difficult!!! there is a big difference between this fan and the carnahan fan though, and that is the direction of spread. This means if you are doing it in the LEFT hand you should do the carhanan technique to display the indicies. If in the RIGHT hand use the Ogi technique to display the indicies. Man, a "wrong ways" fan showing the blank corners with a bunch of paint and pips half-showing is a very ugly fan.
