The usual and I think, sensible, advice is not to use unusual props in the performance of mentalism if you want to be believable.

However I use a set of Higley's shrunken heads in my show with no adverse reaction.

This may be partly due to my location. I live in Cairns, Australia which is just down the road from Papua New Guinea where head hunting and cannibalism was occuring as recently as the 1960's and I'm only a short swim from the Solomon Islands where people were decapitated in tribal warfare even in the last decade.

So although the props are rather exotic they are believable in the context of where I live.

Does anyone else indulge in more exotic paraphernalia?

My Big Foot Toe, Chubacarbra claw, Eye, Water Elephant, and Shrunken Head all are part of a routine I use. Ears, toes and eyes also make have their places.

I occasionally perform a Monkey Paw routine as well.

My preference is to use Higley creations. They have a look and feel that I like and are not made of animal parts. They are hand sculpted pieces of art, and I enjoy showing them off and using them. They inspire me.
