I got some non-expanded shells, all Kennedy halves 1964, real silver. They are the rest of customizing gaffed coins (mostly Johnson) to my own suits. I did some things using other coins (Euros) and US-coins.
Now I have some non-expanded shells and no (really good) idea for using them. Any kind of matrix with a shimmed card and a little magnet inside the shell...? Or, ,... no ideas! Someone out there having good ideas for using these ones? BTW, I only use halves from 1964 - so all coins are looking the same... Thank you!

You could have your coins or some of your coins milled down to fit into the shells.

Geoff Latta's "From the Elfin Hoard" is a superlative routine that utilizes one shell and two normal coins. Although originally it needs a expanded shell, but only one coin is inserted into the shell. So, you can easily play the handling with non-expanded shell.

If you consider them left-overs, you have the best lapel-coins you'd want! See David Roth's book on this.
Having al those '64 halfs shaved and remilled is an option but not quite inexpensive (custom work). If you buy one expanded 64 shell and have one coin shaved and remilled you have a 3-coin nest. Also one or two shaved coins in combination with your shells and some normal 64 halves could give you plenty of possibilities for matrices (Dean Dill style!).

CardMaker,
you may try to hide one smaller Germany coin under the shell, and use a magnetic card to make a visual change of US half dollar to Germany coin. You can palm the shell at once, and show the back and the face of the card empty! my 2 cents, Hirase

So far ... thank you guys!
But I'm using exp. shells in my routines too, so I have no need to use a cut down half dollar. I thought of making a chinese coin (the Johnson black/brass one) to fit the shell - making up my own Lethal Tender. (BTW, if anybody could PM me the exact description of LT and the info about the used gaff, that would be great! I have a Chinatown Half too, and of course lots of these chinese coins) Changing a US half dollar into a Euro-coin? I do it by using my exp. shells. I also thougt of putting a very thin layer of a tailside to the shell, adding a small (ca. 2 cm) slit on the side in this hollow coin. Would fit for a 50-Cent Euro-piece, that slides in and out. Or i could make me a loose (non-locking) scotch&soda coin, engl. penny appears or vanishes! Like a sun&moon coin, just the way round. As I am professional maker of gaffed Euro coins I do have some possibilities - but not always a kicking idea. Or I could .... ?? MORE IDEAS FROM YOU? thx so far
