I was talking with a friend about Biggest Wand and he said the Creative Magic did not want to make an even larger wand for bigger wands but when enough guys asked for it they went ahead and did it.
So I am thinking we should get as many people as we can to petition them to make an even bigger one (maybe just the tip of a really really large wand that you pull out from off stage. it could probably spring open like the cubes they do. Anyone else out there want a bigger wand? Cam |

We might be opening up a Freudian thing here, but let me say that, just for the record, you only need so big a wand.

I think an even bigger wand might work -though I can't see thespring thing working, somehow. But how often, and when would you use it? The Biggest Wand is 12' long. That's HUGE! A small child struggles to "wave" even this one. It might make for a hilarious picture, though, if there were a production box with a massive inflatable wand built in, with a rechargeable pump unit (it would have to be fairly quiet). The wand could be seen to be rising fromt the box behind the performer, without him seeing. Still, I can't see this effect needing anything larger than the current 12' one. How would you use/routine a (say) 20 foot long wand?

Cam, clearly if the currently available 'Biggest Wand' isn't adequate, perhaps you need to perform for smaller people.

Biggest Wand is more than enough.

I don't own it, but I have seen it performed by others enough to weigh in on this.
I understand what the original poster is requesting and I applaud him for sharing his "Dream" for a LARGER wand. He's asking for the next level and asking for your help to get it. I originally thought like some of you that "enough is enough". If you are not having a great time by now, then another level will not be needed. HOWEVER!! May I ask you to step out of your logical grown up person and go back to when you where not worried about money, and everything was fun and games? Just for a moment?? Imagine that the LARGEST WAND of all was so large, that it could not even fit in the building. Now if you can imagine how that would look, then it's possible. Imagine taking the largest wand you have now, back offstage. While offstage, using a small megaphone the audience then only hears "Ok crew, bring in the BIGGEST WAND OF ALL". A prerecorded track of a 16 wheeler diesel truck is heard to startup. Then you hear beep beep beep (truck backing up). That's when the kids see the magician again. He's stage left/right backing up with a concerned look at what's coming. He's actually quite frightened as the engine and beeps get louder and closer. Soon a tip of a wand, so large, that just as it enters into view, it squeaks to a halt. (And I do mean a balloon sounding squeak). At this time the magi is yelling halt, stop, quit, kaput! It's stuck! But the show MUST go on!! The magi seems to want to hurry things along so he lifts the 9 foot bohemouth wand "TIP" and the child places the object needed under it (Magic coloring book, ect). The magi uses all his might to do the final lift so the child can retrieve the book. It's a LOT of work!! The magi then orders the "offstage" crew to pull it out. Of course this would end with a cartoon sound effect of a balloon ending with a cork POP! The stage is now clear, just you, the kid, and the book (or whatever you use). Ok, back to grownup land!! The largest wand does not need to be a full size wand. The anticipation I experienced above was pretty kewl. I mean visualizing what was coming without knowing my mind really started to race. The twist of something going wrong added to the anticipation.(when the magi was backing up to get away from what's coming and the building of the engine sound and beeps). I would think "something" could be made to resemble a very large wand tip. Or you could just wave off the truck before it enters. The kids would still feel the anticipation. Maybe the Largest wand of all is only in our minds? I'll buy that! |

Nice thoughts, muzicman, but I wonder how many of us regularly perform in theatre venues where this method would work?
On one aspect of your imagined performance, I would beg to differ, though: this gigantic wand, if used, would outshadow the colouring book. For such a big prop, I think something a bit more than the colouring book should be the main effect. ;) |

WHERE did you find that, George? Ok, so now I've seen it, I WANT IT! GIMME THE HUGE TRUCK WITH THE GIANT WAND!!!!!
OOOOh, it looks COOL! So what the heck is it really, George? Has David Copperfield been reading this thread? Imagine the impact the sight of that truck would have after going through Bigger Wands, and the Biggest Wand.....it could bring tears to a pirate's eyes! :) |

I just used my "Biggest Wand" for the first time for about 200 kids and they went nutz! and right fully so
I had an 8 year old helping so he could handle the biggest wand. I usually use a 5 or 6 year old as they laugh harder The "Biggest Wand" is big enough for me. |

Yeah I like the tip of the wand idea (the power of the imagination there is really cool) I was just hoping for 50 other people to jump onboard so Brian and his team would give this more thought but it looks like that won't be the case.
I guess I can start working on one for myself. if you have any thoughts I am all ears. Cam |
