German torture instrument auctions seem to crop up about every 50-70 years.

The surviving display copy of the Iron Maiden of Nuremberg was auctioned off around 1964 (along with other devices), and finally wound up in the Rothenburg Medieval Criminal Museum, where it may be viewed today.

Some other auctioned-off Nuremberg devices are on display in the Chamber of Horrors of the Osborne-Smith Wax Museum (Brading, Isle of Wight, UK).

While many of the German devices are legit, a great MANY torture devices are 19th century fakes, created by castle owners as 'tourist bait.'

Yes, I'm a bit of a 'geek' on this subject (I collect Iron Maiden memorabilia [the device; not the band], including souvenirs from the Royal Castle of Nuremberg).

Now that he is married, I was wondering what Penn Jillette was going to do with all those toys he had in his bedroom. Now I know. They are up for auction.

Did anyone else notice the poster in the background at 1:14?
It looks like a guy catching a giant bullet.

I would be interested in what they are asking for the lot and/or the single pieces, but so far the auction is not mentioned on their homepage: http://www.guernseys.com/ Smile

I'm an old man and everything hurts. These torture instruments might actually make me feel better.

Sometimes I would like to try out the rack for a 1/2 hour or so. I'm sure it would feel great if done properly. There are tourist trap "Torture Museums" all over Europe. They feature the real deal, not replicas. We checked one out in Amsterdam, and as a blacksmith I could only enjoy looking at all the hand forged craftsmanship put into those pieces. It's amazing how precise the smiths could get considering it was done almost a thousand years ago.
