About to start working on this, and I have only seen it done with the hoops being one solid color... is there anything standing in the way of doing it with hoops that have a pattern on them?

Wow I was just working on this too lol. I am still in the designing phase but I was planning on getting the ones that have stripes on them and not too elaborate. I found ones that when cut, can fit a cork inside them so I can make the gap a little more sturdy.

Randy... I would say as long as the pattern doesn't give a hint that the penetration is happening at the same place on the hoop every time. So, as long as the pattern is re-occuring around the hoop it should still be deceptive.

Thanks, I figured it should be, but wanted to make sure before buying the hoops, I found some with a metallic, multicolored pattern that I think will pick up stage lights nice, and will still look sharp in parlor situations also!

Are you guys learning this from the original printed instructions?
I found it very difficult learing the routine from them. Is this taught on video anywhere? |

I like the prism tape idea, this is more like a glitter tape with some diamond hapes on it.
I am using the written manuscript to learn it, but I am just using that as a base, I want to add my own variations and moves to it, so I can't say I have had a problem with the printed instructions yet, as I am not going to be relying on them too much... not sure if there is any video of it out there, likely is, what isn't on video and online these days |

Hmmm... Usually you can get this fancy tape in 1$ oder 1€-stores. It looks like fancy scotch tape. Sometimes if it's really cheap it's wise to add an extra layer of clear scotch tape on top. For more grip I can recommend using Leukotape http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keyword......kavdu4_e or some variation of it.

Here's someone in my area who makes custom hoops: http://shop.audacioushoops.com/Custom-Hoop-Custom100.htm Give her a call if you're looking for something unique.

I was thinking of something similar... however, using LED hoops for use at dusk/night instead of just regular hula hoops.
The problem is how to wire the LEDS with the gaps. I'm still working on it. |

Go to the source:
http://www.vikingmagic.com/?key=268&nd=full There are no gaps in the hoops in Dick Zimmerman's routine, as Nowlin Craver has said above. In addition, if my memory serves me, Zimmerman also offers a suggestion for making your own hoops out of plastic tubing obtained from a hardware store. These have the advantage of being capable of being dismantled and being coiled more tightly than the full sized hoops for ease of transport. I am thinking that if you are considering LEDs, they can be contained within the hoops. |
