Hello Guys and Gals,
Here is something that I forgot I had. I was looking though my STUFF and came across this booklet titled. ‘Mental magic with a ventriloquist figure’. http://maherbookstore.blogspot.com/2008/......ets.html Second book down on page. I bought the booklet back in 1983-1985 time frame because I was hot and heavy into ventriloquism then. I started to laugh when I found it and sat down to re-read it. Really, this is pretty good! The opening starts with the puppet doing the 7, 37, and 68 number force. I thought that was pretty good for a block of wood talking! There are bits where the puppet is blindfolded and does funny acts to a slew of other routines. I have never seen anyone use a puppet in a Mentalism act and thought what a funny way to have a little fun on stage or platform. Of course this has to be done all tongue in cheek BECAUSE you are working with a puppet! This is NOT a serious thread so don’t throw flames at me, I am just having fun here and wanted to share this. Ever see Bill Abbott's Chico the Mindreading Chimp routine? It's outstanding.

I have a dog puppet and I have occasionally done a tossed out deck with the dog reading the spectators minds. It gets great laughs, but how seriously the audience take it is open to question.
In my warped mind I feel that ventriloquism is a natural fit with mentalism and also with hypnotism. I am thinking of using the dog during my show, and having him give the instructions to the hypnotised subjects. It will give me a break!

The classic of the mindreading puppet genre has to be Steve Spill's mindreading goose. Anything else I've seen is second rate at best.

Oscar is the bomb. No hay mejor. Once you've seen Oscar, you'll throw rocks at any other similar act.
In case you haven't got it yet...I'm a BIG Oscar fan. Baker?....eh....

Sorry Bob, did't mean to neglect one of the best vents around. Was thinking only about non-speaking puppets when I referred to Steve Spill's goose.
Please forgive me. Dick

One of my greatest moments on stage, ever, was at a PEA function when I temporarily became part of the Bob and Oscar act, and we amazed Derren Brown with Oscar's telepathic abilities. No kidding -- he admitted he was competely fooled for around 20 seconds, and then he cracked up. It was great! But you had to be there...
