Hello,

I am looking for the name of a stage effect in which I can't find anywhere, I will try my best to describe the effect.

The magician ties his assistant up with rope, a man is invited up on stage then the man and assistant stage inside a circular curtain tube and is held high above the 2 people, seconds later the tube is brought down to show the assistant wearing the mans jacket with the ropes still tied and the jacket is under the ties of the rope!

I am looking for the name of the effect and any referances as to the explanmation of the illusionette.

I may be wrong, but is that the Kellar Rope Tie?

My buddy did that at our banquet. I seem to remember it being called the Gypsy rope tie or something like that.

That's what I thought It was but when I look at the gypsy tie in tarbell it is not the same, you can do the jacket effect but not in quite the same way, is the kellar tie different that gypsy?

It is generally called something the Gysel Spirit Tie. It can be found in

I did this almost impromtu - I borrowed some bedsheets and had ~4 helpers hold it up.

What you do in the "tent" is up to your imagination.

I just watch the first video clip from above. The "tie" used in that looks different than the straight Gysel tie, but may still be the same underlying method. Regardless, the effect can still look the same.

Why buy a classic effect from a source like L&L? They didn't invent it. Do the Fulves book or find the original.
Its public domain, and written up several places.

This used 2 separate ropes and 2 separate sets of knots. Neither looked like the Gysel tie. The writs may have been tied with Kellar tie, but the other was a loop around the neck and then the rest wrapped around the assistant.

Regardless, the work under the tent takes a rather long time, and didn't seem all that impressive. A layman may just wonder how long it would take to just untie the knots and then retie them.

In contrast, with the Gysel tie, you can get out instantly, and put on/off a jacket as quickly as you could w/o being tied up.

Excellent trick. They must have a different idea of what a lovely assistant is in Spain than they do here.
