Anyone know any good books on performing publicity stunts for a contemporary audience?
I'm planning a blindfold memory drive in Dallas. I've got all my methods worked out, but I'm still looking for inspiration as to how to present it as a whole. Should I have an MC to present me? How should I approach charities and businesses to find a sponsor? Things like that... Any advice or references to books or video would be VERY appreciated! |

When and where in Dallas are you planning on doing it?
Also, what's the publicity for? Are you trying to get people's attention for a show? What message are you trying to convey with the stunt? There are some really good notes on publicity stunts in one of the early edition bonus inserts of Bascom Jones Magick. -rob |

Devin knights blindfold car book is a useful resource for planning such a stunt. Lovely subtleties that will enhance your drive!
Good luck

End of June, probably North Dallas, I'm still looking for a suitable location. Right now I'm canvasing businesses that look like they may need the publicity, and also have big parking lots available.
What I'd like to do is build up some local fame, and use it to book shows. Ultimately, the goal is to get on the local news with my website url if at all possible. Get my name into the local meme system if you will. I will check out Devin Knight's book, thanks! |

I've done the blind-fold drive, and got great publicity when I was arrested. No one had told the local cops about the stunt.
But I had even better fun taking on a skidoo driver in a snowmobile race in Lapland, blindfolded. It was a bit unusual. I have always felt that a great stunt, if you can ride a horse (as a Texan I assume you can) is to do a showjumping circuit blindfolded. Something very visual about a blindfold horse rider.

And blindfold the camera lenses but have an announcer do a play by play for radio.

Alex -
I gotta think a car company or dealership needs some good press right about now. Approach them. Maybe even a laser eye care center - think of the tie in. How you regained your vision after a procedure from them, etc. Best of luck. Tim PS; Your video is down at YouTube. |
