Effect: Reed introduces a blank piece of paper, talks about it and sets it down for later use. A quarter is borrowed from a spectator and offers to vanish it and make it reappear inside the spectator's hand. Reed momentarily turns to the audience and asks if everyone can see the coin. He then transforms it into a jumbo coin. The jumbo coin is placed in the middle of the folds of the blank pieces of paper. Reed taps the paper with the jumbo coin inside against a solid surface to prove that the coin is still inside. With the help of fire, the coin is said to have vanished. Reed proves this by tearing the paper into small pieces. Reed says that he has caused the coin to vanish and travel to the spectator's hand. The spectator looks at his hand and finds nothing. Reed apologizes and says that he missed and asks the spectator to turn his hand over. He finds the quarter the magician borrowed wedged under his watch.
Creator: Reed McClintock Review: Okay, while this effect may not appeal to everyone, I urge the people who have this effect to try it out. This effect packs flat and plays big. You can use this effect close-up or in a parlor setting. The sleights are not that difficult to do. Although the vanish of the jumbo coin and its reappearance as a small quarter may seem illogical, a tweak in the routine will fix this minor problem. The tearing of the blank paper to show that the jumbo coin has vanished is one of the main highlights of the routine that makes this a memorable one. Seeing pieces of paper falling to the ground is a theatrical accent that leaves a lasting picture in the mind of the audiences. Combining this with the surprise appearance of the borrowed quarter under the spectator's watch, you have a practical high impact effect here. Will I Perform This Effect?: Definitely! I may change the patter a bit and the handling to fit my own personality. This effect is a practical piece of magic that is versatile from the mind of Reed McClintock. Rating: I give this effect a 9 out of 10 stars , 0 being the lowest and 10 the highest. I highly recommend this effect. Try it. It can be found in the February 2007 issue of Genii The Conjuror's Magazine.
