I keep checking for a new Word of the Day, but it appears this is the Word of Every Day.

It's also not a very pretty word, and doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Can the next word be prettier?

I've always liked onomatopoeia.

It just sounds good.

I like onomatopoeia because I was one of two students in second grade that could spell it correctly.

Patience please. I am constructing a web site which will indeed give a new word a day, plus a thousand word mother of all vocabulary tests. Smile

I heard it way back in high school and it's still one of my favorites... not sure if I'm spelling it right: transpermogenesis.

Apparently it was the theory that we are an experiment done by aliens who came down here when monkeys ruled and, well, had fun with the monkeys.

Sometimes accidental words are memorable because they 'feel right'. I friend fumbled out "magment of figmentation" that I liked so much that I used it as the title for a book. (about magickal happening rather the magical ones)

with magic effects I have used 'confabulation' and 'transmorgification' and such -- the audience seems to enjoy silly sounding words.

My fave is also one of the longest;

Antidisestablishmentariantism

yeah... its a word.

yeah, I use it to appear intelligent. Personally, when I see anyone use arcane super long collegiate words it's evidence of the mental version of overcompensating for a small willy.

How about "higgle". It should be a word. But what would it mean?

A 'higgle' is a word made up for use in one of my books? ie: Ridicularity is a higgle.

Nah.

When my 6 year old got up from napping on a trufted bedspread she was dismayed at all the bumply impresssions on her skin. My 8 year old said, "Oh those crubbles won't hurt you," and my whole extended family now says "crubbles"

Abligurition should just roll off the tongue, since it comes from the latin word lingere, "to lick". Apparently someone doesn't like licking references in a discussion of a word that's hard to lick.

I'm confused.

In practice yes, but etymologically, I'm afraid not.

But ***, I wish I'd thought of that.
