I've not tried either of the ropes you mentioned. Richard Sanders recommends using Camirand Elite Stage Rope for Fiber Optics. I've used this, and I find that it's a perfect weight and feel for the Fiber Optics moves and routines. I have tried some of the softer ropes, and I just didn't like the way the handled compared to the Camirand rope. Although I have heard some good things about Daryl's rope.
It might be best to try a couple of different ropes and see what feels best to you. Hope this helps, Brian

I am fairly confident in the rope I am using. 15mm, hollow core and very close to the rope they made linking ropes with.
Not a pure white tho. If any of the guys in this thread want a free sample, PM me.

I wonder if Richard Sanders put something in the ends of the rope to keep them round and not flat.

Quick question...Does the title "Elite Rope" always refer to the Camirand brand? I have noticed on some web pages dealers are selling "Elite Rope" and the price/size/description to me indicates that it must be Camirand BUT they don't use the word Camirand. I called one dealer (no names) and asked if he was selling Camirand brand "Elite" rope because he didn't mention the name Camirand and his answer was, "I think it is." Very helpful. So, basically, has anyone run into a situation where "elite" didn't mean Camirand? Thanks in advance.

Yes, empire magic has elite without the Camarand reference. Plus any dealer who buys from Murphys or Show biz can get elite rope. Camarand is, however, the
wholesaler.

The Camirand elite stage rope looks fantastic but is way too stiff for my taste at least...
I still prefer finnish rope made by Finnish rope factory. don't know if it is sold by other dealers around the world. You cant get it from http://www.markkupurho.fi and go to english section from right side flag. However I believe that it is same rope sold by most magic dealers. It isn't as thick as elite rope but it has the foam core and so on. Juha-Matti |

The Camirand Elite Stage Rope was at the beginning of 2009 made with a very soft inner core to keep the rope rounder but this has added a light stiffness. Although many people where happy about this improvement there were long time user that recommend that we go back to the previous specification that made the rope very flexible. So we are back to a very soft rope without inner core. Our rope is UV LUMINESCENT and with be very visible under any lighting set up.
PS. Fiber Optic is the upgraded version of the Three Rope and a Baby by Richard Sanders. Three Rope and a Baby comes with a set of Elite Stage Rope cut to length and finish with the end tuck in as recommended by Richard Sanders (the method as been written up in the Three Rope and a Baby Book). Here is a method to finish the rope: cut the rope to one inch (2.5 cm) longer than needed. Fold the rope half an inch inside the inner core of the rope using a blade of a scissor in multiple step first fold 1/4 of the edge and continue until all is fold in. Add a dot of paper glue at the very tip after the folding process. Do not put glue on other part of the end but the tip.

What is paper glue? I am getting ready to make a set of ropes of the fiber optic rountine and this post was very helpful but I have no clue what paper glue is.

So I thought I would add my opinion on using Camirand Elite rope with the FO routine. I should note that I learned and have been performing FO with regular cheap magician's rope for some time and finally decided to give the Camirand brand a try since Richard suggests it on his dvd.
Here are some random thoughts IMHO... Camirand is certainly stiff and that helps certain moves like the sliding middle move and the various catches that are somewhat acrobatic. The ends stay put and don't bend easily. That said, I find the main tie on move harder since the rope is more stiff and somewhat "square" in shape but that may just be because I have been using a softer and rounder rope for some time now. Another random note is that the Camirand brand really frays at the ends since the rope is stiff and due to the way it is braided I assume as Cairand himself was saying above in his very informative post. It's also harder to cut. This means taking a little more time and effort to glue the ends. No real big deal though. Some nice posts on this topic above. All in all, I think I will stick with the Camirand rope over the cheaper rope but I do think I need a few more days to work with it as is the case when you change brands etc...but only for FO. Now that I have used Camirand rope for Fo I can see specifically why this thread exists, lol. It is unlike any rope I have ever used and left me initially seeking some answers provided here. Nice rope but certainly expensive. Someone mentioned taking their rope to the dry cleaners??? Really possible? I just couldn't imagine taking my rope to the cleaners here in Queens, NY and trying to explain that I needed rope dry cleaned...??? LOL |

I sell Baronian rope, and find that even the fatter rope he carries works well, the BTC3 stock number I believe is a hollow core braided rope (actually has 1 strand in the core) and is very pliable and visible.
It does not have UV qualities but is softer than Elite.
