I don't work regularly with 5th graders but I do with Middle School kids.

Vent is very popular due to the above mentioned vents. Last week I saw a student with an Achmed (the terrorist/Dunham) t-shirt....(can you say back of the room sales..)

Along with vent...puppets made of duct tape seem to get a nod from the young to middle school.

Putting a sucker trick such as hippity hop rabbits, etc. early in your performance does the trick.
