I’ve been getting some leads for shows from this service but I’ve never heard of them nor did I ever sign up for it. Can someone share some success stories, problems?

A recent lead I received causes me to wonder.

Type of event: Anniversary
Number of attendees: 2
Event Duration: 2 hours
Event Budget: $350
Special requests or comments: Romance

Just what type of “magic” are they looking for? Smile

Hi Ken,
Eventective is a legit service, but I haven't any success with them as of yet.
I believe many of the "leads" that come in are auto-generated, and will come to many entertainers. My gripe is that, like you, I'm getting leads that have nothing to do with me, what I do, etc., and there's no detail in what they're looking for.
I just ignore all those. yesterday one came in, no details, but it said $0 for entertainment budget, another red flag to just delete & ignore.
A week ago I received one in which they were looking for a pro sand-castle builder for a beach event, once again, it must've been auto-generated.
I think sooner or later it'll pay off, but in the meantime, they gave me $50 credit for me to use, which is commendable. There's another thread somewhere around here with a rep from the company offering the free credit. Just write him and you'll get it. Good Luck,

I've been getting these, too. I'm assuming my website's URL was just harvested because they clearly didn't bother reading even the first page. They probably send out the same emails to anyone with 'magic' or 'magician' in the domain name.

Both of the ones I've gotten were obviously not my market. The first was for a kid show. My website is pretty clear about the fact that I don't do children's shows--that I only perform for adults. The second appeared to be someone wanting to rent a hall--no mention of entertainment at all.

The fact that you have to pay $2.50 or something just for the lead just screams out "scam" to me.

I too have gotten a couple of these. I have turned them down and given them a reason for each. It looks like they are taking the reasons I give and filtering the new leads better.

Not sure if it is a scam or not. I would have to pay up a couple of times to find out.

When I was doing construction I would get leads from a similar type service and for a slightly higher price. I would track all the advertising I did in the business and do a monthly cost per lead, % leads converted, and size of job comparison per lead source. This service did not provide many leads per month but the close ratio was high and the advertising costs extremely low.

The are legit...

As leads go, they are as good as any. Ya' STILL have to do what you do to get the work.

The good news is, you CAN go in and update your own profile (with they may have created for you) for free and you will get better leads.

Good luck.

There have been many posts on the Café, do a search. You'll find lots of concern and complaints about Eventective. Do a search and you'll find them.

Because of personal experience, and the experience of most of the other magicians who have posted regarding Eventective, I've canceled my listing with them and encourage others to do the same.

Yes they are legit, but many people question whether many of their practices are legit.

I have had numerous amounts of leads from them. But just because you get a lead from them doesn't mean the event wants a magician unless stated in the specifics...otherwise I wouldn't waste my time or money on the lead.

I guess I lucked out... I have only really received really targeted leads... the GETTING THE GIG is up to us after that.

Too, as I said, you can simply update your own profile for free and make SURE you only get he leads you want… pretty easy really, even for a techno-boob like me! (Hehehehe!)

Just an idea...

Thank you all for your responses. My apologies for not doing a search on this subject first. The following thread was very helpful and includes a reply from someone who actually works for the company.

My personal conclusion is that my time could probably better spent elsewhere.

So does anyone want to buy my lead? (They want a private show for two and romance for their anniversary at their hotel). I’ll sell it to you for $3. Smile

I have a problem when I find (as in this case)
that I am suddenly listed on their site, as if they represent me,
when I was never contacted or asked for permission,
or if I wanted to “work” with them.

Frankly, I don’t.
(as the saying goes “birds of a feather” and I don’t want to be one of the birds)
The fact I never asked to be listed, never asked for leads, never signed up,
leads me to consider them Spam.

They just "appeared" from nowhere,
and are rude at best and unprofessional at worst not
to contact their talent to see if they WANT representation!

My two-cents anyway,

Magically,
Walt

Writing a very firm email,
I was able to get my listing removed from Eventective.

It was popping up about third in Google searches for my company,
and I did not wish to be associated with an online-booking service,
who I find has questionable accuracy and representation issues.

Here is the contact information that was on their email,
in case anyone else needs to get off their site.
