Does anyone know of a maker/dealer of silks that would work for a reading show or other "non standard" shows.
I have seen the birthday ones, and I have a Jesus silk and a Just Say No silk as well as a few other specials like the 3 1/2 of clubs etc.

Neale, Tim will do custom printed silks. I am not sure how expensive it is. You could contact him for a quote.

I can hand paint silk but Tim's stuff can carry more detail. It just depends what you need.

Depending on what you want on them (the silks that is), you can make your own. I went to a fabric place and picked up a cross stitch hoop. This allows for the silk to be pulled taunt so you can use sharpies to write or draw what you want. I do my drawings on paper and place them under the silk and trace the picture out and than color it in. This lets me make multiples of the exact same design.
Chris Posted: Jun 11, 2009 12:49pm Richard, I have not used paint on the silks before so I was wondering what type of paint is it that you use? Thanks Chris |

Chris, I have never actually used paint on silks, but I have used fabric paint many times in various other types of fabric. It seems it would work well on silks too. I always get it at Walmart. It is available in variety of colors. Some of it is 'puff' paint, which would probably not be a good choice for silks, but it seems the other types should work.

I do not use paint as it adds thickness. I use dye. There are lot of books out there on the subject. It does take patience and concentration. One mistake and you bought the silk.

Sam the air brush idea sounds great. Had not thought of that before.

Chris,
There are plenty of opportunities to use a special silk once! As you know now, you can handle that. I want to encourage you to think beyond that. Often the special silk is of no value to you after the show. GIVE IT AWAY! It will surprise you what it can mean to the individual who got it. The returns can come back many, many times. Enjoy your silk magic. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
