What about abreactions and how to deal with them?
You don't need training to learn to deal with that? A serious question btw, not rethorical...

No all you do is distract the audience then gag and brush the volunteer under the carpet.
Or why not make sure you have your old trusty book with you. Just make sure it has a chapter on abreactions. Or when the person is in hospital getting treated and you make the national news claim you do non hypnosis shows and that they are faking abreactions because all of this doesn't exist. But don't let them see your book on hypnosis or your lie will be exposed. Beware of the advice you get on an online forum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9zKfuztFX4&feature=related |

Interesting clip,
no-one was hurt in the end though. I can't understand why he couldn't bring them out. two hours is a long time mp do you think he was trained poorly? or the subjects? as you posted it, what is your opinion? |

You can only speculate what happened from the clip. But I have heard lots of similar stories over the years. And even had a few stucky situations that freaked me out.
The clip said that the hypnotist commented that "this had never happened before" and he didn't know what to do about it. Either way I would say he wasn't knowledgable in hypnosis enough to know about abreactions and what to do about it. To me this should be basic and essential knowledge of any stage hypnotist. Secondly he didn't know how to manage the audience in this situation and therefore it escalated to the point of making national news. Anyone who jumps into doing shows after reading a book is leaving themselves wide open to these kind of things. And I can tell you from personal experience and stories from agents I've worked with that there are lots of things that can go and have gone wrong. And people can and do get hurt. Its easy for us to come up with theories and say everything was ok hypnosis is safe. But the reality is someone ended up in hospital and this made national news. Its also now on youtube permanently. |

In fifteen years of doing shows I have never had anyone undergo an abreaction on stage. I have had two negative experiences. One was because the woman volunteer was high on illegal substances. I dismissed her from the stage at the start of the induction, but she passed out in the audience. That was purely narcotic. The second was a man who suffered a massive epileptic fit after my show. He was hospitalised, and his doctor (and his family) confirmed to me that his fit was a result of him taking a large amount of alcohol before and after the show, despite being on very strong medication. Again the bad reaction was caused by chemistry, not psycology. In both cases I dealt with the situation without compromising the safety of the sufferer, or the quality of the show.
By the way Mindpunisher, though I am a cowboy to you, I have a diploma in psychotherapy and am well capable of dealing with any issues that might arise during a stage show. But in fifteen years none have arisen.

Rent a room, invite friends and have them bring people. Basically, stack the deck in your favor. That's how I did my first show and it went well and gave me the confidence I needed to start doing real shows.
Now, granted, I got both Geoffrey Ronning and Marshal Sylver's stage hypnosis DVDs, watched them repeatedly, then went to Geoff's live training in Vegas. Then I practiced, put together a show, and off I went.... |
