Hey all, I'm going to be in New York from Aug 8-14, in part to be at a friends wedding on the 9th, but otherwise free!
For those that are there, can anyone recommend any good places to see magic? Are there any local magicians in the area meeting up? It'd be great to meet some of you in that area if there are folks around. Alym

Hi Alym,
The two main stores are Tannens and Fantasma. It's worth it to check out both, and they are only a few blocks away. David Roth works at Fantasma on some days and Simon Lovell is often there a lot. For shows, there's Monday Night Magic (on Monday night, of course), as well as Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic show at the Waldorf, which sells out and needs to be booked in advance. I believe one of the magician hangouts is Maui Tacos (also near the two stores) on Saturday afternoons, but someone else in New York can probably help more than me with that information. OK, addresses would be nice;
Tannen's Magic is located at 45 West 34th Street Suite 608 (This puts them just west of 5th Ave.) Fantasma is located at 421 7th Ave. with a note that the entrance is on 33rd street between 6th and 7th Ave. which puts it one block downtown and a little over a block to the west! Maybe this year, when I take the kids to Comic-Con, I can steal away and visit! (Yeah, right! Try taking Jeremy away from girls in spandex super-hero outfits to look at sponge bunnies! Unless Zatana is demonstrating magic, he's going to drag his heels the whole way!)

There used to be a notice up at Tannen's (when Tannen's was on Times Square) letting magicians know that there was a "magician's brunch" going on in a coffee shop down the street.
I went once, it was a wonderful experience and I managed not to embarrass myself too badly. I wonder if it's still going on somewhere?
