I used a bicycle inflator nozzle with a screw-in cartridge and a hose with a needle to inflate a basketball. But it has a thumb trigger. Is there anything for a similar effect that can be rigged to trigger remotely?
I'm looking at having two of these inside a box. I'd like to trigger them independently from outside the box. Mechanically is fine, as long as it's fail-safe. Any thoughts? Ed |

Hey Ed,
There are two ways you can do this. You could use a solenoid valve that could be triggered remotely but you have to use the correct valve. Believe it or not those little C02 cart. can have as much as 1000 psi in them depending on the ambient temp. Not using a high pressure valve is very dangerous. The other way is to rig up up the inflator with something that will squeeze the thumb trigger. I played around with both methods, they both work but they are not cheap to build. Hope this helps, Nick |

How about using a long throttle cable, similar to what is on a lawnmower?
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Thanks, Nick. I'll probably try something like securing the devices into my box, and then making a hole for my finger to get into and push some kind of self-locking triggering mechanism. 'Bout as fail-safe as I can get on my little budget!
Cheers! Ed |

Nick is right on the money.
To get the right solenoid valve for that pressure is a little expensive. You can retrofit the existing thumb valve if you hard mount the original unit some way then use either a mechanical trigger to push the thumb valve (Plunger, choke cable, etc.) or an electro-mechanical trigger like a laminated solenoid: http://www.grainger.com/itemdetail_large......X241.JPG ... and use that to trigger the valve by electrical means or remote. You can get these in 12 volt if you need it to be self contained or 110VAC if you can plug it in.
