Bad news.

Eric Paul has about a week to live. He's in the hospital for one last time, and the tumor is now on his other lung, and it is incredibly hard to breathe.

I just called Eric (called him in his hospital room @ 10:00pm EST Sunday December 27) he was feeling a little out of it but he still spoke with me briefly. I stated ..."he has been a great asset to the magic community"... and he commented ..."it has been a great journey."

I am at a loss for words.

I’ve never met Eric and do not believe that I have spoken with him, but over the past months, I’ve been following this thread. He has been, and continues to be an inspiration.
From what I’ve read and have seen, Eric has faced his situation with grace, dignity, and a strength that not many of us could even hope to have; on top of this he has chosen to share what is going on in his life as a way to inspire us all with the many lessons he has learned.

In his last video, Eric mentioned that he has several books that will be released to mark his legacy. In my opinion, his legacy is already in place. He is an inspiration and an example to us all.

My prayers and best wishes go out to Eric, his wife, children, family and friends.

I met Eric once years ago. So I cannot really say I know him.

The video was incredible. Not many could think ahead enough to produce something like that.

A thought comes to mind concerning Eric that I heard many years ago. "Life is not measured by the duration but by the donation of it." It is very obvious that Eric has and continues to give much to all of us through his "journey".

My prayers are with him, his family and friends. He has made a difference.

This is so sad. Eric is couragous, and he knows he is going to a better place, but it is still heartbreaking. We all need to keep praying for him and his family.

I have some sad news to report. I just left Eric at the hospital. To be
candid, unfortunately Eric has only days to live. The disease has spread
to his other lung and he is in a lot of pain and having difficulty breathing.
He is on medication to help with the anxiety associated with not being able
to breath and he is also on morphine to help manage the pain.

While facing this difficult news, Eric is very happy (joyous) to have accomplished his big goal which was to spend Christmas with his kids and it was only this
big goal that helped him manage the pain in the last 3 days. But once his kids
left Christmas night, after a short nap he drove himself to the hospital and
checked in. He is in Phoenixville Hospital room 267. If you are able I know he
would love to hear from you and if possible, he would love to have visitors. I
know this is uncomfortable and perhaps awkward but please know that Eric is
facing this head on and he takes immense comfort in the fact that he knows when he
passes that he will be the Lord. So please don’t hesitate to visit or call. He still
loves chocolate and asked someone who called while I was there to bring him some
chocolate ice cream!

When I was leaving Eric was attempting to get online and update his friends
through Facebook etc. But if you would, please forward this to anyone you can think of that I have not included.

Just a couple of points of clarification.

That note came from Jim back on the 26th. It's now the 29th. So, we are well into those final days now.

Also, Eric is no longer in room 267, but was in room 404 at last notice.

Yesterday, one of Eric's friends from his church, contacted me through Facebook and later by email.

She had information about a fund set up for Eric's kids:

I attend church with Eric and am a part of the children's ministry team in which Eric was also a part of. There are so many people that have asked "what can I do" and so we thought that opening a fund for his children was appropriate; it is also what Eric wants.

The fund named -- Eric Schlachtas Childrens Fund -- was opened at Citizens Bank. Donations can be made at any Citizens Bank or can be mailed to Citizens Bank at 2701 West Ridge Pike, Norristown, PA 19403. They must put the fund name on the check. There are 2 signers on the account and the money will be used mainly for medical expenses (glasses, braces, etc), although Eric would also like the money to be used for prom dresses and things like that .

I don't know if this is the best time to approach this, but since you brought up the fund for his kids, what is the future of Eric's products and future products? Will they continue to be sold and will his family directly benefit from future sales?

I'm sure many of us will contribute to the fund, but would also like to continue to contribute through his products.

I asked Eric directly about this yesterday, because people were asking me.

And I'm talking with Jim Palmer for clarification. Please do not order items until further notice.

OK. I've now talked with Jim, and got some clarification.

It looks like it still might be ok to order digital download products for the time being, but they will be shutting down his business shortly. Please do not order the other items for now.

Also, they are likely to close up his business, and then sell his business and domains as unit to someone, with proceeds to his kids' fund.

They will be working up the legal paperwork for that, and talking with some possible candidates, shortly.
