I have been thinking for a while now to add some form of the spirit cabinet into my show. So those resources would be helpful to me too if you don't mind.

Hey Dave
While you're at it--I would appreciate the information as well--I am working on a history of Spirit Cabinets--not sure if it will go anywhere but it's my current project. Dennis |

Ok for all who asked, below is what I sent to Dan. I hope it helps:
----------------------------------------------- I have been planning to do a spirit cabinet for a couple of years, but haven't found a "holy grail". I know Carlyle has some plans for a post-type spirit cabinet http://carlyletouch.com/PageFive.html , but I haven't purchased it. I have a set of plans that were produced a while ago I think from Abbotts called the "Casedega Cabinet". Go to MidwestMagic.net. You might want to check out the booklet "Celestial Agent" too. I can look at my seance-related books (I have just about every one for magicians and a couple released as exposures to false mediums, including the two-volume Abbott book published by The Miracle Factory). I know there is footage on YouTube (and on one of their DVD as a bonus) of Falkenstein and Willard doing thie Spirit Cabinet. Let me know what you find out, as I plan to do this some day. Right now I'm sticking to the smaller theatrical seances, but plan to do one which plays bigger (ex: on a stage) sometime in the near future. I found the link on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbPfK6K7LJE --------------------------------------- Later I emailed him the below: Dan: See my PM at The Magic Café. Here's some more YouTube stuff. I also remembered this for a more illusion show spirit cabinet made out of PVC pipe (needs hidden helper). Look for effect number 9. http://www.magicnook.com/pvcpipe3.htm You can use the FREE program to save the files in MP4 or FLV format: http://keepvid.com/ Paul Daniels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFLlL96kUao&feature=related Derren Brown Anlysis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhaUpOkShOQ&feature=related One and a half Comedy Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNEIPz4V8xM Padino Italian Magician - Has some excellent images of the medium Palledino at the beginning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWAiUF1OWhk&feature=fvw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBhzuqKpNDA&feature=related Anyone else, please feel free to share what they know or have found. Thanks, Dave Birtwell |

Docsteve and Eddie - Hey, I've learned about plenty of stuff here on the Café. That's what it's all about.
If anyone has more info to add, I'd greatly appreciate it. When I get a chance to go through some of my books, I might add some more references. Dave |

The Davenports biography is a must-read, if you want the earliest cabinets, the way we think of them. You can find it at spiritwritings.com
Prior to that, search on "shaking tent". It was a ritual common to all of the Algonquian speaking tribes of N. America. Since the Davenports lived in an area that still had a lot of Algonquian natives, I think it's reasonable to suspect it as the place where "cabinet" jumped between cultures.
