Lincoln IS returning (the date is in November or December of this year). I have spent a nice sum of money in this shop. However it got to the point where there was nothing new to buy. But each time I went in there I noticed someone was buying something. Yes a shop has to make money but this is a special shop---not only to magicians but to people who have heard about it all over the world. Disney is very customer oriented and if they see there is an interest in this shop they will keep it. I heard once that one phone call or one letter actually represents the voice of 1500 people. I hope Disney looks at this in the same way.

Yes, Lincoln should return. I was just picking up on the irony of selecting this sacred cow for the example. They took it out several years ago for the 50th anniversary celebration. The AA technology is much more sophisticated now so they have the chance to make it better than ever. It is also a VERY cost effective attraction for them.

BTW, I have to imagine that this day is long gone, but in the early 90's, I went into that shop and they had a rather nice selection of magic books. Believe it or not I bought Erdnase's book there for less than $10.

Does/did Disney have more than one magic shop? I remember years ago that I went into a magic shop. It was near the Bumper cars,IIRC.

I forgot about that one over behind the Good Time Theater at Knott's. Disneyland did have a second Magic Shop location in the Castle for a while. It did have a lot more theming and some really liked it better. It sadly went away for another merchandising outlet that generated a better return.

I was told, "Over by the bumper cars." About magic shops, real ones ... I agree they are fading out fast. A friend of mine, Michael Paul, owned and ran one in Massachusetts and had to close it. I think Disney should team up with a well known performer, one the main stream would recognize, and put together some sort of marketing campaign. Even if it were a small part of a larger campaign. Maybe Blaine? I remember seeing Rudy Coby performing right out front of the shop in Disneyland. He did the "tall man" illusion. I think something like this could spark some new interest.

Actually, as stated before, this change at Disney began back around the time Eisner came to Disney. I honestly do not believe he cared for magic.
One other example of the changes that affected Magic in Orlando Disney World was not only was the edict given to rotate non magic and true magic demonstrators throughout the various stores, but eventually he forced the closing of Bev Bergeon's Revue at the Diamond Horseshoe. It was a show that was in demand and sometimes it took up to 2 days just to get inside to see the review. Bev played Disney for 16 years and was quite an attraction, and what he did for magic promotion should have one him a MAGIC OSCAR, but evidently Disney wanted people moving constantly throughout the parks as the theory is the more they move, the more they spend. Disney seems to be leaning less toward entertaining and more toward an attitude of rushing people from place to place in an effort to generate more revenue. The old Magic is gone as new generation of executives have taken charge and the bottom line is the dollar. |

He is a former cast member and ride operator. He is the creative force behind most of the new things happening at Disneyland. Because he is a former "in the trenches" employee he, like us, has a nostalgic feeling about the park. He is over seeing everything first hand in the park. I think a few letters to him would get something done.
