Not trying to beat a dead horse here, and Tomas' strategy goes a long ways to help disguise the illusion.
However, I believe certain analytical people have the potential to catch this. A fellow engineering buddy has a mind that picks up on subtleties like crazy. When I saw the Malone clip, it appeared obvious to me, and my buddy picks up on stuff that flies past me. Before I knew much about magic, we saw a performance of the original "Out of this World" and he had reconstructed how to do it a day later. I didn't even know how it was done, and he explained it to me. I understand that the Cross Cut force is a great force, and that this mixing procedure will probably fly by the vast majority of people. But I would definitely add in the mixing "show" at the beginning. Another thing that I think helps the illusion is to do the switch on top of the deck, then do the deal of the two cards to the side. The closer the deck is to the discard pile, the more obvious (to me) it becomes. |
