Does anyone have any experience with the Roughing Stick?
I know the current version at Card Collection is the one by Finn Jon. How good is it? How does it compare to fluid? Any advice greatly appreciated. |

I bought it years ago and it does the job
It is LESS MESSY and easier to control where on the card you want the "rough". But, in general I like the spray.....However the stick certainly has it uses and is portable.

Thanks for your help.
I actually want to use it on business card so the stick would be easier and less messy to use. Thanks again. |

OK, bought the Roughing Stick and, I have to say, I don't like it much.
It tends to leave a white residue on the cards and despite several applications, the cards don't tend to stick together as they should. Think I should have stuck to the spray Mark |

It's function is a bit different than roughing fluid in my experience. Not bad but different, so it has it's own application field. A card with the stick on sticks to all cards wether or not the other cards are roughed or not. On the other hand it is easier to spread lose whith the right amount of pressure. For example that makes it extreamly easy and clean to double push of, but also to single push of in the next moment.
I suggest you try it and experiment with it, but do not expect it to be a straight alternative to roughing fluid. They rather complement each other. |

I just got the roughing stick from Stevens and I think it's very good. I found that going over the card two or three with a light pressure gives a good "grip" and minimizes any white residue. I just used my fingernail to scrape off any residue that did appear.

Hi Mark,
I've used the identical Roughing Stick quite successfully. It really is a good alternative to the spray IMHO, especially if you, like myself, are somewhat quite daunted by the prospect of spraying the wretched stuff all over the place! I originally had to purchase my Roughing Stick from the States because I had absolutely no idea that it was stocked over here. However, thanks to Clive and Jamie at The Card Collection we can now obtain it readily here in the U.K. May I just add a rider here, I've always found the guys at The Card Collection to offer a first class service whatever requirements one might have regarding card magic in general. Also, I am not getting the grip I require from a Rough & Smooth principle. Any tips? Mark |

I've now used it on a few packs of cards & the Invisible Deck I've found far better than the spray. I can overhand shuffle it quite casually & yet it separates just as I want. I found a jumbo pack of cards in our local bargain shop & now have a jumbo ID which works well. It does leave a residue but it's almost invisible on red backs & it's unusual to allow a spectator to get their hands on a R & S pack anyway.
I like it! |

I use the roughing stick as a repair for cards that have started to separate through wear and tear but I wouldn't use it for a whole deck

This is the first time I have heard of this product. Does it produce a genuine "rough" surface, or is it just repositionable adhesive?

Greetings. I had not seen this post previously so I had not had the chance to chime in. My two cents worth: No, it does not measure to other forms of roughing cards namely Krylon spray 1311. It leaves a residue and the roughing is not as even or predictable. Disappointed with this expensive purchase from Stevens Magic.
