Even though it's now only July, I just booked my first Xmas bazaar for mid-November, and am working to tie up three other Xmas shows as well.
These bazaars are perfect for Svengali Deck and Magic Worm pitches, and can be incredibly profitable. People have put aside money for holiday gifts, and they show up looking for things to buy. These pocket magic tricks make great stocking stuffers for children, and the price is right. After spending a few months doing outdoor shows with bugs, thunderstorms and high temperatures, it's a pleasure to work some indoor shows where you don't have to worry about the weather or put up a tent. And a Svengali Pitch will usually have zero competition, even though there may be four Tupperware booths and a dozen jewelry people. Last year was the first time I was able to do a lot on the Xmas bazaar circuit, and it really made a difference in my annual bottom line. So I highly recommend going after this sort of business. But the trick is to get these shows booked early, because they sell out quickly due to repeat vendor bookings, which are usually offered to church members first. You may have to dig around to find your local Xmas bazaars, but a few calls to the local churches or a bit of Googling online should do the trick. It's well worth the effort, in my experience. SETH
