The Canadian coins that I use are attracted to magnets but I'm wondering if any other international currency (ungimmicked) is as well. Thanks for any info you can provide on this.

Many "copper" UK coins are attracted to magnets.

I had to play around with a few in the gem shop before I found the one that really latched on to the magnets I carry in my pocket. I can't tell you what a bonus it is for most Canadian coins to be attracted as it provides just a super method of ditching/stealing coins. Thanks to those who've given info on foreign coins as I'll be visiting the coin shop tomorrow. I'm also hoping to find an ancient greek/roman coin to do some kind of alchemical coin routine. jeff |

Thank you! I'll have to get my hands on some euros and try them out now.

I have some coins from Tahitti, and they work great with a magnet.

Although it is a good thing for Canadian coins to be magnetic but when you want to do something like dime and penny trick with a ** ring,...it will be very hard unless you can find the non-magnetic ones....

Since Canadian coins can be picked up by magnets, a great stunt is to find a Canadian coin (while blindfolded) in a (plastic!) bucket of US coins.

I found a coin from the Cayman Islands that is magnetic.
It actually looks a lot like a canadian quarter. Heads: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee204......46986251 Tails: http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee204......46986286 -Vinny |

I hope this helps. I've been making a coin database for us musicians. It's a lengthy project. Right now I have done most of the real currency coins that are "medium" size, roughly a half dollar size. I still have another 10 coins or so to input. I also list the composition of these coins. What you want to look for are coins that have STEEL or NICKEL (COBALT is also magnetic, but not found in coins) in them.
Enjoy. http://coins.lorenwade.com P.S. Soon I will list large and small coins, as well as gaffed coins. |

I go to the local Flea Market or a Coin Store wearing a PK ring and just go for the Foreign Coin Box. I stick my hand in it and all the coins that attract to magnets stick right to the ring. I then take my pick from there. You can get the coins anywhere from 5-10 for a dollar. That is your best bet

When you go make sure to get them in pairs. That way you can do a switch if you need to. If you ever go to a flea market go to the dollar stores and you may find some Chinese dollar size coins that are attracted to magnets. If you use a PK ring get some Sticky glue dots and put it on the bottom of the ring. It stops the coins from talking on the ring.
Have fun. TC |
