I know Outlaw and Carlyle sell them for palmistry but I've never seen one in real life. Does anyone have a picture of one they can send me that doesn't violate anyone's intellectual property rights?
I'm giving rune readings and it occurs to to me that I'd be crazy not to use them myself. I can see the value of giving someone a personal memento with my name, phone number and website on it, plus a blurb about phoning me or visiting my website for info on booking a home psychic party. I could illustrate the 24 runes and let people number the three that came up in their reading (I use a three rune format called the norns layout) and whether or not the rune was reversed (some can be, some can't be--reversal changes the meaning). Is that the basic idea of a tick sheet adapted to runes? How are tick sheets perceived by customers? Do they use them to take notes? is there anything else that I should put on mine? I guess my first ones will come off my inkjet and eventually I'll get them printed them up a thousand or more at a clip. Am I on the right track? Thanks, Rocky (Tom)

Think of a tick sheet as a checkable summary of some of the keypoints from the reading that also has your contact information on it.
I don't have one that would pertain to runes, but the tick sheet does not have to do with runes, just a list of key terms and or attributes with room for a check next to them. Check off the ones that came up during the reading and give it to the client as a keepsake. Tony |

I use a tick sheet as part of my aura portraits.
You can see an example at: http://www.elementalentertainment.com/El......rait.jpg I fill it in during the reading, and the checked boxes at the bottom serve as an easy reminder to the querent what their aura means according my description.

Ahh thanks Phil. I can see how I was a little bit off in my assumptions and you've given me some ideas.

Often pros won't share their tick sheets because it easily exposes a valuable tool and by showing them does in fact put out there their intellectual property. Phil offered a great sample resource that should be appreciated. Carlyle's Webster, Hilford and Earle also have great examples of Tick Sheets and are usually a featured component of a larger or more complete method or system.

A set up that I designed for a woman who reads runes in my area:
She does a few different rune readings; loosely based on simple tarot card spreads. Three rune 'quickies,' for example, may just be three runes in a row, side by side. Let us imagine that in this reading they represent Past, Present and Future regarding some question that has been asked. The greatly evolved 'tick sheet' page for this would show three blank outlines of runes in a row, side by side. You, as reader, would draw in the runes that have been chosen for this reading. (By whatever sorting process you use.) Beneath each of the three runes would be a label, describing what that rune signifies . . .in this case Past, Present or Future. My rune reading friend has a well-designed three fold brochure with her photo, some colored photos of runes, contact information ,etc. etc. On the BACK of this brochure is a complete illustrated listing of all of the runes and their meanings in a maximum of two sentences per rune. The person getting the reading can fill in a few words and phrases on the first sheet as the reading progresses - any notes they wish to take down. They will also be given a brochure which will explain the particular runes in their reading - AND - they will be forced to keep the woman's brochure forever! Great marketing ploy! We had a few different readings - with names like Four Seasons Casting, for example, which used an illustration of four runes at four compass points on a circle. Or a different reading in a vague X shape with five rune outlines to be filled in. Each would have a sentence about what that part each particular rune would play in that specific reading. In each case, tho, all would get the brochure for the complete rune listing on the back. The more paper you can give them, the better! I've never seen anyone with a system quite like this. In general, I don't like tic sheets, where all possible responses -(usually very brief!)- are listed. Then you just quickly make a check mark - or whatever - on the few phrase that apply to this reading. I feel that's giving the entire system away to whomever wants it! I don't want to do that! Or at least in the busy competitive psychic fair environment of the late seventies and the eighties it was so, anyway. Competition for the best table set up, the best lines, the best marketing gimmicks was intense, so you were always working to prevent others from stealing your best 'stuff!' brane |

Thank you Brane!
You are a brain. The first reading you describe is the "norns" reading. You've given me a great a great idea on how to construct my tick sheet. Thanks again, Rocky (Tom)

I've made my first tick sheet! It's great. Letter sized, folded in four, although when I get them printed it'll probably be simple fold-over of a half size sheet.
I can't go into the details but anyone who needs one for a three rune or three card reading I'll make you a custom one and send it to you as a PDF (For a modest fee). BTW, the back is an ad for my psychic home parties and appearances by the hour. Rocky

Tick sheets are very useful tool. Mev Pro Shop sells some nice ones, but I prefer to base my designs on the older vintage designs. I like that incomparable Robert nelson look.
What I really wish someone would bring back into print is the old Palmograph chart. Old timers may know what I am talking about. There were several versions over the years, from several printers -- a black on pink newsprint version, a black and red on yellow version, the one that came in its own envelope, the ones that came flat and you rolled them with a rubber band. The size and detail on those Palmogaphs would not repay use as a give-away today, but the cost could be built into the reading. Make your tick sheet and your pitch books match in terms of cover graphics. The tick sheet is free, but then they want the book that matches it. |

Don't be silly. A tick sheet is what a tick uses on his mattress, along with a tick quilt for those cold winter nights.

Bob Tripp has a very good Rune tick sheet as part of his Runescope product. You get a set of hand cut Runes, casting cloth, and the ticksheet. Highly recommended.

where does one find a Robert Nelson tick sheet? If I were doing aura readings (for example) would there be an advantage of having an actual tic sheet over having, maybe a sheet of paper with my contact info and space for me to sketch an aura and perhaps write down a few key phrases underneath? I'm curious to how much information is checked off, obviously you can't have enough to check off all the possibilities of a 10 min reading and what if your reading is longer and involves personal questions and answers?

Seadog, it's a tick sheet, not a tic sheet. To tick something off is to check it off. A tic is a neurological spasm.
Nelson incorporated a tick sheet on the cover of one of his horoscope pitch books. It's brilliant. Each method or system of readings has its own traditional set of tick sheet concepts. Some list personality traits. Some list lucky numbers, some list system terminology bits (e.g. concepts used in palmistry, astrology, numerology, auras, runes, etc.), as Brane described. Some tick sheets also contain hidden "self-working" cues for the menmonically challenged reader. By "hidden" I mean that there are no words, just symbols that remind the reader of their chosen mnemonic system. All tick sheets contain the reader's contact information. You asked "How much information is ticked off" on the sheet. That totally depends on the style of the tick sheet. In the case of your aura reading example, an outline figure and a list of colours and meanings would be suffcient. I agree with Brane that a tick sheet that includes *everything* inherent in the chosen reading system is too much. Less is better. Tick sheets work best with first-time or one-shot clients. Repeaters do not need or want them. If you want the client to keep the tick sheet, it pays to use good artwork, and to print it on stiff paper or index stock, greeting card style. If you work events and want to re-contact clients with offers of special or private readings or birthday discounts, you might consider combining a decorative "sign-in-sheet" (asking for name and DOB) with an impression clipboard: The "sign-in sheet" can do double duty as a tick sheet when it is folded and given to the client, while you retain a copy for your records. Again, mevproshop has some very nice tick sheet and pitch book combinations. Among the offerings are tick sheets for palmistry, aura readings, numerology, and so forth. Loren will customize them for you with your name and contact information and send you a printable pdf. Check them out. No need to be cheap and try to reinvent the wheel. |

Indeed, Dr. REvil ... and look at the price on that reproduction!
Actually, I have found originals at online auctions for a great deal less money than that repro -- and some of them come complete with the printed envelope as well, which the repro does not. I also have an example of the other major old style seen in my youth -- which is printed with black ink on pink newsprint, sans envelope. The art is similar, but slightly different. (One of them influenced the other, for sure.) Being a one-colour print job, the black-on-pink was cheaper then and would be cheaper to reproduce these days. Maybe we can interest Loren Tindall at mevproshop in this idea... I would gladly loan him samples for reproduction. |

There are several Robert Nelson collectors. If you wanted to find his old stuff I think a post in the collectibles section here might help.
