Hi all,
I finally added the Silk to Egg (based on Ammar's routine) to my repertoire - primarily to use in my Family Show where I have a mixed crowd, as far as ages go.

I'll be debuting it tomorrow in a camp show I have. It's actually three shows, for three different age groups.

The first age group is 3-6yos - I will not be doing the Silk to Egg for them.

The oldest group is 4th-6th graders - I will definitely be using it in that show.

But the middle group is 1st-3rd graders. Well, at this point, I am not planning on using Silk to Egg for them. I have a feeling it might not register so well with them, they are still pretty young.

But I wanted to ask you guys what age you find is the youngest that this effect plays well for and is understood by?

If you're going to break the egg at the end, and can have one of the kids do the breaking, they will love it... at least that part of it. You might also have the kid who broke the egg dry his hands on a "dirty hands" towel, and then reach into your pocket to recover the missing silk. Of course you will want to remove the snake and the spider and the mousetrap from your pocket before he reaches in there. If he is too frightened to reach in, have a pair of tongs ready.

I agree with your thoughts on the age groups above. I've done it for 7-9 year olds and it's played very well.

I find that 4-5 year-olds have no problem understanding it and having fun.

I've used just the plain routine for the younger set with no problem. You just have to make sure you CLEARLY display the fake egg. Funny way to do that is to stick your thumb in, hold the thumb vertically and spin the egg on it. To be SURE it's funny for any age, get "SuperChicken" from Barry Mitchell. That routine would entertain anyone of any age.

Well I did the camp shows yesterday. I decided to only perform Silk to Egg for the oldest group. I was a bit disappointed, to be honest, at the lack of much of a reaction at breaking the egg. I don't think I flashed or anything on the switch, my egg is high quality and I hand colored my sticker hole (complete with silk wrinkles and all - art school finally paid off?) - so I am sure the "hole sticker" was deceiving enough. And I didn't stutter or screw up the routine or anything, verbally.

It might be a genuine case of "stunned silence"? I am not sure.

Well, I have a picnic show today where there will be 75 kids, mixed ages. Right now, I plan on trying the Silk to Egg again for them. I'm hoping for a better reaction today!

I endorse the approval of "Super Chicken" - it's great way to perform "Silk to Egg". Compare though, to Jeff Hobson's "Ultimate Egg Bag".....in my opinion, a FAR superior effect, with NO real eggs, and the ultimate in "packs small, plays big" effects.
The BIG difference with Hobson's Egg Bag, is that the HELPER is the one, who finally makes the egg appear, so the magician doesn't come across as smug, AND it looks like REAL magic, just like silk to egg!
