After ten years in magic I did my first purely mental show tonight. Did at a performance night at a local coffee shop, where I shared a bill with a folk singer.

I did some psychological forces, pk touches and closed with a drawing dupe.

I feel really good about it and excited with where my act is heading. I was originally going to do some card mindreading stuff but I wanted a clean break and did purely psych stuff.

Thanks, this forum has definitely been enlightening as I move more in to this area - though you certainly have to sift through a lot!

I like this thread a lot more than the "bashing" one. *Group hug*

Good for you Natanel. What was the highlight of the performance in your mind?

Great stuff Natanael.

It takes a lot to move away completely from magic. I considered myself a rather accomplished card handler, my strike double lift took me over a year to master, and it's hard leaving behind those skills that you have acquired over many years.

I made the jump about a year ago to doing 100% mentalism and I've never looked back. I think it was hearing the words "You're really clever" for the 1000th time that finally did it Smile

The first mentalism performance is the hardest one! So congrats for taking the leap.

In the future, don't worry about using cards. There are a lot of strong mentalism with cards. Osterlind, Maven, Cassidy, Banachek, etc., all do mentalism with cards. But I'll confess, it took me a bit to start incorporating cards into my mentalism. You'll see that you will get a stronger reaction than if you were just doing card tricks.

Well done. Whats next?

For that long, may I too remain,

Thanks so much for the kind words. It was an intimate coffee house setting probably about 30 in the crowd and seemed to go over really well (of course a young audience, later in the evening doesn't hurt).

After doing mentalism shows? I would say doing good mentalism shows haha. I know I have a lot of work still to go, tightening up my scripts and using less filler talk being my number one goal for the next show (I'll be doing the same venue again next week). Also I found the logistics of my drawing dupe a bit of a nightmare, I'll have to play with the timing and use much bigger notebooks, figure out a better way to compare them etc.

I think they were most responsive to my pk touch sequence, which incorporates a couple popular ideas and is done as a psuedo-hypnosis thing.

" psuedo-hypnosis thing"

Excellent! Basically all of my illusions have psuedo-hypnosis suggestion in them.

Break a lead!
