I was PM'd for further info, thought some may find it useful.
I wait until they are kicked out of the nest. That's when I lose mine. Lose a few in the nest, but most of mine died after leaving and the parents refused to feed them as they were tending to new eggs. I put seed into my fist and insert the birds beak. they open their mouths, and you dump it in. Doves are born with full sized beaks, no need to grind. Add grit to the seed, feed the grit separatly. I also teach them to drink from a water bottle. Just put it up to their beak. once their beak comes in contact with their beak they get the idea. I feed them twice a day, leaving a water bottle at the bottom of the cage, they usually ween off the water first, then the seed. The cool thing is that they will fly to you automatically once they can. |
