I learned this Spellbound in Roth's Expert Coin magic book. It works very well with the exception of an quiet clink by coins. In the book it says to have the coin ride on the nail of your thumb, I find myself doing the same thing only on my index and middle finger - is this bad tecnique? or will it work as well. Either way the coins seem to talk for me. Any advice is greatly aprecitated.

I find the circular type motion and grip that Curtis Kam does on POS I is best for me (New York Spellbound). The coins don't clink and I do it with Morgan dollars.

Would you be refering to a move published in Apocalypse? For some reason I recall it as 'Circular Spell'.
It is a good move for situations that warrant several back and forth changes. Enjoy! -Jonathan

Hey Jon, if I remember right wasn't that move credited to you? I know Kam refers to it as a 'Circulus Switch'. I may be remembering wrong but I thought that was you...

That's Jonathan's move, I did get the name of the switch wrong on some of the early sleeves, but I think that has been corrected. (Confused it with a card switch by Russel Barnhart, I think they're both from Apocalypse.)
Jonathan's switch does not exactly satisfy Roth's requirement that there be "no grip changing", but certainly there are no visible movements. It's the most efficient way to perform the continious change that I'm aware of. As I recall, the Roth handling involved some grip shifting, too, at least as you got into it.

You are right Curtis. Actually I think that Roth's grip had more of a noticeable change in the hand as the coin changes grips. At least the ones that I have seen published, he may have a better way of doing it that hasn't been released.
I guess I have one of the tapes that it hadn't been corrected on but it's cool. Thanks Curtis for clearing that up. Jason |
