Magician Nathan Burton returns to America's Got Talent tonight after placing 11th on Season 1. If he makes it through, that will be 4 magicians favorably received and moved onto the next stage of the competition in Las Vegas.

After David and Dania were on America's Got Talent (either one U.S. citizens?), were they on Britain's Got Talent too? I thought I saw a clip of them there as well. I don't mind, but I am not sure about the "America" part anymore.

I loved Nathan's show in Vegas, really first class, fun thing. Would pay to see it again in a heartbeat. Of course he has talent, he is a paid Vegas pro, he should, people pay big bucks to see him all the time, as they do David and Dania (who performed at basketball half time shows around the U.S. including at WMU in Kalamazoo).

The tv viewers need to realize this program is not a Ted Mack Amateur Hour for sure. Do they?

Again, I have no problem with that, but the producers/judges perhaps should make that a little clearer. Kinda like watching a talent game for unknown "lay" football players only to find out later they play in the NFL on the bench.

Nathan Burton is not being "discovered" on this program like singer Sarah Boyle from Britain. If the pro singer playing the part of the "Phantom" in Vegas was on America's Got Talent, might this be thought to be a little fishy? Same for the Pendragons appearing, yeh they were kinda unknown for the public in general, but at least they did clearly state on the show they had been performing for years.

So their contestant rules are not all that clear to me. Wouldn't it be kinda strange if Pierce said to Nathan- "I caught your paid ticketed daily show in Vegas, I liked you there too." So maybe somebody knows the rules or why is not a big deal. But again, I love magic and will watch and enjoy it anytime, anyplace. Right on and more power to them if they can get exposure through this popular program, I don't blame the magical performers at all, I just can'tfigure out what this program is supposed to "represent"- amateurs, unknowns, semi-pros, partial pros, full-time pros who are not household names yet, etc.. It appears basically to be for "unknowns" with no other restrictions- okie dokie by me- just need to say that I think. I think also the same goes for the dancing programs- many contestants are full time or part-time at least paid commercial dancers already? Enjoy reading all your posts, thanks for keeping me informed, will enjoy watching tonight.

Nathan was also a paid guest performer after being eliminated during season 1.

This season, approx 50 acts have been moved onto Vegas for the next round. Of that, four are magicians.

If you missed Nathan's appearance last night, show, you can catch the clip HERE

Sadly, they show only one of the illusions that he performed for the judges.

The amazing thing is the judges acting like they had never seen him before! No reference to last year, no mention of a successful running show in Vegas... nothing.

I'd have to go back and look, but I think that there was at least one different judge.

Also.. Nathan was on season one of the show and we are now one what... 3 or 4?

I think AGT is a terrible show. I know because I suffered through a few episodes of seasons past to catch the magic acts. This year I just said, no way, life's too short. Is there anywhere that just the magic acts can be viewed on-line? Actually, just the good magic acts would be plenty.

I have been posting them all each week as they happened along with my interview with each performer. Hope that helps.

MagicBus - thanks for making the comments that I came on to make - my thoughts exactly - but perhaps a little sugar coated.

I happened to know several people that have been on that show - and that have gone pretty far. This show has very little to do with reality. Do you really think they will let someone win who doesn't sing? They want record contracts from the winner.

The Nathan Burton's return in Season 4 as a run of the mill applicant - is a blatant example of how "cooked" these shows are.

It also shows - that they are running out of Pro Performers to call in February and beg to audition. Now they are running the same performers through. And why would Nathan Burton not take another chance to get his face on TV.

I don't know what sickens me more - the producers of Reality shows or the viewers that have to tune in every week, and lap up the phone story lines like they are reality.

Lots of great things is this day and age, but crap like AGT and American Idol are two things that I think really dumb down our society.

(Wow! where did that come from.)

I have to agree with Duckster - about those reality shows.

Did you see last year how they brutalized Becky Blaine. See probably did fine- but they edited it to make it look like she did fine and edited in the booing from the audience.

Now perhaps people will believe what Cairo and Ray said in the other thread when folks were saying they were "misinformed" about how this reality show really works in terms of editing, ringers, and crafting a tv show to win ratings instead of just running a normal above-board talent contest.

Maybe I can give a little insight for you guys on the AGT.
First you need to sign a 6 inch contract. You practically give everything away. AGT even goes as far to say they have the right to use a body double to do your act or to show your emotions etc...
Second AGT loves to see the performers under pressure. they tell you, you have 4 minutes and the day before you go on they'll tell you "you only have 90 seconds"
Not only do you have to take parts of your act out but you might have to edit your music too. A lot goes on with the pressure you don't see.
Third, I love this one. When you get in the top twenty you get a call from Simon and he asks you what are you going to do for the next show. If he doesn't like it or agree he tells you right up front and tells you chances are you probably won't move forward.

Magicbus made a comment that Nathan Burton is already known and that he's not an amateur. AGT is America Got Talent, not Amateur Got Talent.
The reason Nathan went back on is the same reason Kevin James will be on the next season (MONEY)
Kevin James and Nathan Burton both publicly stated how they hate how the show treats you. But they both also said they get booked for more shows now , they have more in the attendance and they charge more.
Wouldn't you go on AGT to boost your career??????

Absolutely! I think it is a great idea for them to be on, I'd do the same if I had either the talent or the show. My point is the viewing public in general probably does not realize they are actually watching, in most part, pros. I am not even sure now the talent is even from America (as David and Dania where also on Britain's Got Talent I believe). I don't really watch the show, just DVR it for the magic acts and move on. I really did like Susan Boyle's first appearance though, that was a wonderful moment in tv history.

You can explain the "inner workings" of AGT - fine thank you.

My point is much greater - America's current culture is totally sucked into the whole American Idol mentality.

As long as the viewing public keeps following these shows the producers will come up with more and more variations of them and we will less and less shows like West Wing, and Seinfeld. These "reality" shows are much cheaper to produce.

I think there should be a reality show - that exposes the contrived nature of these shows, and also chronicles the Lame Brained American Public that follow these shows like it is legitimate programing.

Unreality Shows.

No disrespect to those who have done it but I would not go on AGT to boost my career, nor would I go on any reality show.

I've turned down direct calls from America's Got Talent, Wife Swap and the old 30 Seconds To Fame shows.

I'm sure there's no disrespect taken by any of the past years performers who are now houshold names and all of us online who nobody has ever heard of.... and before everyone jumps on with their resume explaining how famous they are... I know already.

I also know a lot of people who were "offered" spots on the show, some were ok, some were great and many were not good at all. Remember that they have to fill a LOT of gag spots with bad performers so the talent buyers spend just as much time selecting bad acts as they do good ones.

We've all turned down some shows and selected others but that doesn't really mean anything. Let's get off our high and mighty horse and be realistic. It's an entertainment show that sells advertising time, nothing more. It IS a gamble which has paid off big for some and cost others a lot of credibility.
