Lance Burton does an effect in his classic dove routine where he lights his cane with the tip of a cigarette and the flame creeps from one side of the cane to the other, with the fire making circles around the cane the entire way. Can anyone explain this effect to me? Is this a manufactured cane? A clever use of flash cord and glue? It really looks cool.

I believe that the cane is not manufactured made. Instead, the cane is twirled around with flash string and some flash glue.
Creating this effect can be done with any cane. Hope that this information will help. Symmatrix

Yes, this definitely helps. This is what I suspected.
However...If it is flash string, how does it blend in with the cane? Is it painted black? If so, is it a special paint? I always assumed that flash string was always an off-white color. Do they manufacture it in various colors? Ryan |

They have a range of coloured flash paper but if the string is only white you could run a black marker down the string - I wouldn't paint it though. Still, I have never tried. Give it a go and see what works best... |

Flash glue? Has anyone ever actually seen any?

Yeah, I know it exists for the purpose of gluing multiple sheets of flash paper together...to create a giant sheet for illusions, etc. However, will the glue bond flash paper and flash cord to other solid objects aside from other flash paper? I mean how good is the bond that flash glue creates?

The bond created is not intended as a super adhesive, but as a highly flammable base that has adhesion. Nitrocellulose is the base chemical, the speed and activity of the reaction can be modified by introducing other agents.
