Anyone know the name and scource of the pop-off knot on his comedy rope routine? It includes PN, and the move he uses I use to actually tie a knot in the rope without apparently letting go of the rope - can't remember what that was called either.. the moves are very similar - one results in a knot - the other results in a pop off knot.

Anyone?

Tks!

I'm not familiar with Ted's work, but pop-off knots are easily tied, and explained in a number of source (Fulves self working rope, Dary's Expert rope magic..)

A trick that produces a knot w/o letting go of the rope (or crossing your arms), is a Hunter Knot, but I'm not sure how that is related.

Maybe you're thinking of a slip knot? These could be tied w/o letting go of the rope, but are completely different than a pop-off knot (where the intact knot falls off the rope)

John,

You're correct - it's the Hunter Knot... he does a variation of this and it produces a pop-off knot. Rather than just doing the normal pop-off knot. He does the Hunter Knot first, and then appears to do it again, strengthening the illusion that it's a genuine knot..

Tks

DCB:

A pop-off knot requires an extra piece of rope.

Did he tie a knot that falls off(a pop-off knot), or did the knot dissolves to nothing (i.e.; a slip knot of sorts). There are a number of ways to do the latter. Do you have Ency of Rope Tricks?
