I am new to busking and I am trying to put together a table rig. I have watched the cellini dvd's and know about the different tables that are an option. This table would put you in mind of a waiter stand with a table top but it is made differently. here is a link http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibraltar-Pe......31451.gc I thought about buying the table and adding a servante like kozmo uses. any advice would be great. thanks

I suggest using a 4 legged table for stability. The pic you sent looks a little flimsy to me. A keyboard stand or a waiter tray stand is best.
If you want to go the tripod route, I suggest getting one with tube legs, and not the thin, jointed metal beam type you use as an example. The tube-style legs are slightly more stable.

Those and the Pearl Trap tables are darn sturdy stands. I don't own the Gibraltar but I own a Pearl and that thing is hard to knock over. Heavy, about 20 lbs or so. Musicians don't like their stuff on bad tables either. Go down to a music store and check them out if you have doubts.

Thanks for the advice. Faulkner do you use the trap table for a busking table?

I did at one time, I don't now.
My table now is a special made, expensive and way too cool for the likes of me, bang on the dot, mega table. Top secret stuff. But the real question is can it be used, the Pearl table can and I think they are close to the one you show. Check out Frank at the Ambitious card for a great little hook up servante. |

Depends what you wish to use a table for...
If cups and balls, perhaps the table in the link isn't sturdy enough. But I've seen that same style table used by some good street performers. Worked like a charm.... |

Percussionists aren't known for the gentleness of the way they handle their instruments. I would go to a drum shop, yeah got to an actual store, and see what the percussion tables are like. If you like the table, then why not buy it there. Good music shops need support, just like local magic shops. A really nice music shop that has been open for decades just closed their doors. One less place to try things out and to get questions answered. I got my first copy of "The Real Book" there.
Having said that I'm putting the finishing touches on a table that uses a keyboard stand.

Marty,
Ahh, the real book. Got my first one across the street from Berklee College in Boston before they were legal. I second Marty, go to a shop and see, don't listen to folks that haven't seen or used one of these tables. I KNOW that the Pearl can take cups and balls and anything a drummer will slam on it. They are much tougher on things than magicians, their job is to hit stuff. The Gibraltar I haven't seen so I can't say for sure but I would put money down it will be as sturdy. Music shops are going the way of magic shops, go to a shop and tell them what you want. They want your money and will work with you. |

Thanks for all of the help. When I decide on a table I will purchase a servante from frank. I am looking at the pearl table I think it would be more studier.
