Just stumbled upon this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H8mgU807_E

Never heard of this guy, and I'm not sure who did what first or whatever...not my point. The thing is:

Isn't it just a little WAY familiar do Garcia's TORN?

Doumergue's came out first. Danny used Doumergue's tearing process and added it to Torn. Torn is still my favorite t&r card for it's simplicity and visualness.

Do you have the dvd version? I don't know if it was any different (content wise) from the vhs version. I got the vhs version YEARS ago; he went into a brief history of the effect and mentioned Doumergue's version.

I have the VHS, but I haven't checked it out in a while. I'll take a better look at it, just for the curiosity sake.

PS:
I was searching through the Café and found a thread where this whole thing is mentioned, but didn't come to an agreement. Whatever, heh

Agreed Doumergue's version came out first Smile

Daniel "Borrowed" much more than the tearing sequence.

Ripped and restored came out years before torn...

Yves

So what didn't he "borrow"? I own Torn and just watched the trailer of Doumergue's R&R and... erm... well... I could see the sequences of Torn in my head... Maybe Doumergue's routine is impromptu?

For me, torn is a 90%rip off of Yves' RnR. That's just my opinion. You don't have to agree with me. I am a fan of Yves. I bought Torn when it just came out, I felt cheated! I compared RnR and Torn by watching again and again. The most disappointing purchase!!!

To Yves, keep up the good work brother.

Everything's impromptu as long as you always carry what you need with you, even if the audience's not aware of it Smile

Thanks for your kind words and support.
During all this years, audience taught me a lot about this effect.
I'll publish a new version within a year... purists will prefer the original one, workers will definitely prefer to get a standing ovation (even in close up) with the new one.

I prefer Yves version. It's very nice. I used to perform this on weddings. Great reactions. From drunk people, but great reactions!

I never really did a side by side comparison of the two versions (even though Danny did mention Yves' in his video). I still feel that Danny's is smoother and more magical.

A lot of the stuff Danny puts out isn't his.

Mainly just a little minor variation to something.

But he has a LOT of great original effects out there too.
