This is for all the locksmiths that hang out here.
A friend has aquired a metal Haliburton case and the combination lock isn't working. The pin you use to change the combo is very stiff and the case currently opens with any combo. Regardless as to whether the change pin is engaged. Also the lock dials spin downwards fine but when spun the other way it stops at zero. If you have any suggestions as to why this may be, how to fix it or just plan/explanation of how this type of lock should work please email me at roslyn@roslynwalker.com or pm me here. Thanks for your help

Why fix it? A case like that, could become a wonderful story.

Sadly it's not mine, it really does belong to a friend rather than "a friend" who aquired the case.
If it was mine I'd gladly keep it the way it is. But he insists on trying to fix it. So any help would be great. Cheers, Ros

Ros...I've never had any success in fixing these. Most of the locks are built in the Far East, and spares are not readily available. Also, even removing them from the case is a hassle.
It might be worth googling "combination locks for cases" to see if anyone in the UK holds stocks of similar locks, and then just replace them both. Or just go to a good luggage supplier for advice. They do not show up in any of my locksmith supply catalogs I'm afraid. Cheers Mick H |
