Jeff, I'll be happy to read and privately comment on your material from my perspective, but in the end, the only person who can tell if it's Genii material is Richard Kaufman. Also, there are many people here who are far better qualified than I to discuss the historical antecedents of your move if it does turn out to be a reinvention.
Nevertheless, if you would like me to take a look at your idea I'll be happy to do so. I already know of another substitute move which looked great when I saw Jason Leeb of Tampa, FL do it on a home video. I can definitely tell you whether your move is similar to that. Looking forward to it, Joe |

I'm not sure which magazine it's in.. but, I think it's called Jet coins... and this guy does some awesome things with the muscle pass. I think a retention pass too... I have the mag somewhere, I'll look and get the mag and tell you guys the issue number and pages.. you should all read this.
it's in Genii or Magic... not sure which one it's in... |

I've been doing the muscle pass for years and have a great amount of distance in which the coin travels. I like to balance the coin on my middle finger and slide it into place (which for me is just right of a classic palm). I also have seen a few others do this sleight and the hands look all tense. I get the coin into the proper position and then relax my hands a bit and I find I get a greater distance. I like to use this for a
"muscle pass/click pass." I forgot the guy's name that came up with that idea. well hope that helps a bit. |

So you want to learn the muscle pass. Buy Michael Ammar's Classic Renditions video with John Cornelius' Coin that Falls Up.
I just picked it up and the first time following Johns careful instructions, wow! I put my left hand in a recieving position where it usually is (about four inches to the side of my right) and I overshot it by a good foot. And I didn't even feel like I squeezed that hard. If you want to learn this move, I suggest you learn it from the master. Oh, and for all of you who STILL can't get it, John also teaches a cheaters version. It looks pretty good and you can put a coin through the ceiling with it.

The two best I've seen in person are James Ceilen and Chad Long. James did this about twenty five times in the hallway at the Stewart James Tribute in toronto in 1990.... Awesome!

As this skill becomes more popular you will find people faking it using a standard pass -- pretending to place the coin in the lower hand and catching it in the upper one. Great distance can be achived this way ;-) I'm not recommending it -- just want to be the first to acknowledge it.

I learned this many years ago from Shoot Ogawa. I think he has a DVD on this. You can pick it up pretty quickly with constant practice (multi-tasking while on the phone, on the computer, watching the news, etc...). I try to rotate different types of coin sizes, weights, and edges to stay familiar with a broad range of coins. :o)

Question for all those blessed with naturally strong and calloused hands. What do you do to make sure the pass works?
I ask because I had a cruddy classic palm, then I worked on the MP. Now both are okay-ish. I never use the MP as a flourish (no point in showing off a three inch vertical rise for the lassies when they're hoping for a good foot-length!haha) but as a utility pass its great. My problem is that sometimes the classic palm is just concrete. The coin doesn't want to pass. I can squeeze all I like but I'll just have to reset the palm and hope it'll work next time. Anyone have a method that gets the coins/hands "just right?" Not too slippery, not too sticky. |

Holy thread renewal batman! It's almost 10 years old. Hehehe.
Anyway... first of all, I suggest using http://coinvanish.com/ under the "foundations" link you will find some helpful hints on the MP. Also, MP is not used from classic palm postition, it's just a bit higher up on the base of the thumb. I think the resource I linked will take you a long way. |

I just want to know one thing:
I've been practising the MP for about 3 days (Probably about 8 hours while multitasking) and I am starting to get some lift with both hands. I've got very big hands. My palm is bruised so I need to take a break, but I just want to know... If I'm getting some lift does it mean I'm on the right track? I'm using a half-dollar but I've got some morgan dollars on the way... |

I think it took me about 6 months to be able to do it. I learned it by myself and I found out that I used coins that are too small. Now I got a pretty good muscle pass

6 months eh. that's reassuring. Took me about 6 months to be able to do the pass well. There is hope!

Does anybody do the simulated famous muscle pass? This is a fantastic "INSTANT" way to execute the famous muscle pass without ever actually doing it or ever having a callous. " Complete different muscle is involved" ( but at extreme ease)" The coin starts in the palm of your hand.
One "CANNOT" tell the difference between the regular famous muscle pass and the simulated muscle pass. Many magicians think they saw me do a muscle pass when in fact they saw me do a simulated one. "IT'S VERY COOL" MICKEY SILVER / HANDS OF LAS VEGAS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMvNFR1kXsQ |

I'm getting frustrated with this. I'm lucky to get one inch of lift vertically. Horizontally it goes a good distance though.

I was lucky enough to be Shoot's helper and translator during his recent Spanish lecture tour. All I can say is... GET HIS DVD. 2 disc set full of knowledge about the MP... after spending 3 weeks with him, I have a fairly nice MP with my right hand, and my left hand's is starting to look nice...
